Join our team and support students to access college and STEM careers. This year's STEM summer program is focusing on the E in STEM (science, technology, engineering, and math) and students develop a model for future transportation of the Lewis-Clark Area. The Project Advisor/Mentor position will assist our project with supervision and mentoring of students during part of the summer program June 24 to July 31 as well as general support and services throughout the year.
The project assistant/mentor supports the implementation of the project’s college-preparation program TRIO Upward Bound Math Science, serving high school students (from low-income, culturally diverse backgrounds) to access college and STEM (science, technology, engineering, math) careers. The position assists by administering, and maintaining project services and administrative duties: duties include office support for TRIO Projects, assisting with administrative duties, such as files, automated systems, computer records and/or word processing software, assisting with development of public relations materials, communication with project participants, services and information delivery to participants, assisting with supervision in and out of lodging facilities during program activities, including evenings and weekends (room and board provided during residential programming), other duties as assigned.
At least 18 years of age.
Currently pursuing (or having recently completed) a post-secondary degree with an academically responsible record with at least one year of successful enrollment.
Demonstrated record of experience with educational programs with youth or related groups.
Demonstrated record of positive role modeling for youth or related groups.
Demonstrated record of reliably providing informal and formal feedback and reports to the supervising entity.
Possess good verbal and written English communication skills.
Possess good skills with computer software.
Valid driver's license with an insurable record.
Willingness and ability to work irregular hours over a 7 day workweek.
Willingness and ability to drive a university vehicle in compliance with UI policies and procedures.
Currently pursuing (or having recently completed) a post-secondary degree in science, math or engineering or related field with an academically responsible record.
Experience with leadership and other group and individual education settings as supervisor, mentor and/or organizer.
Knowledge of or experience with populations from low-income or culturally diverse backgrounds and/or specifically the UI TRIO Upward Bound STEM Access population.
Experience working detail-oriented and establishing effective quality-control habits.
Knowledge of or experience with populations from low-income or culturally diverse backgrounds and/or specifically the UI TRIO Upward Bound Math Science population.
