The Department of Psychiatry and the UNC Neuroscience Center at the University of North Carolina - Chapel Hill seek a faculty member with expertise in computational neuroscience, analysis of cortical network activity, and in vivo and in vitro neurophysiology. The successful applicant will have experience with computational and biological model systems relevant to Transcranial Current Stimulation and other brain stimulation modalities, an area of clinical focus in the Department of Psychiatry. Additional expertise in (1) the computational modeling of network dynamics in neurological or psychiatric disorders and (2) the use of intermediate model species for the study of cortical brain dynamics is required. This position will be tenure track at the rank of Assistant Professor in the Department of Psychiatry and a member of the UNC Neuroscience Center.
The successful applicant is expected to both build an independent, basic-science research program in the area of network neuroscience and teach and direct courses in the areas of network and systems neuroscience, brain stimulation, and computational neuroscience. In particular, the applicant is expected to teach a semester-long course in network neuroscience and teach both graduate and medical school students. Teaching is an important mission for all members of the faculty in School of Medicine. The person in this position is eligible to mentor graduate students who choose the Department of Cell and Molecular Physiology for their thesis work. In addition, the person in this position will be eligible to mentor graduate students who choose the Curriculum in Neurobiology and the Department of Biomedical Engineering. Minimum qualifications include a Ph.D. in computational neurobiology, with postdoctoral research experience in combining computational and experimental approaches in the study of cortical network dynamics. A strong publication record in refereed scientific journals is a requirement for the position.
