Title: Tool and Product
Location: Menomonee Falls, WI
Is responsible for the design and modification of products as assigned. Designs must take into account marketing or customer objectives, product reliability, manufacturing capabilities, cost parameters, product functionality, safety requirements, and appropriate standards and regulations. The product is to be properly specified and documented, including agreed upon manufacturing tolerances. New product responsibility continues through an acceptable initial production or pilot run involving coordination with marketing, sales, production, material control, cost engineering, quality control, and purchasing. This includes establishment of product quality levels and the preparation of a projected new product timetables as a member of a new products introduction team.
Determines the best type of tooling for new products consistent with expected product life and production requirements. Directs the design of such tooling through the Tool Design Group. Specifies tool materials and approves tool drawings as required. Is responsible for new tool debugging, if necessary, during initial production or pilot runs, coordinates any necessary revisions in an efficient manner. Should be capable of advising the Drafting Department with regard to matters concerning the design of related fixtures and dedicated manufacturing devices.
Manufacturing Process Descriptions and Tooling Estimates
Proposes manufacturing process descriptions, estimates tooling requirements, and determines or accumulates other such product design information as is necessary of cost estimating manufactured-type products. This process must be performed in a timely manner and includes defining product requirements through marketing and customer contact as required. In this regard, should stay abreast of current manufacturing and tooling technologies, as well as present manufacturing costs in order to propose the best process and most economical tooling in line with item specifics and the appropriate facilities.
Assists Customer Service personnel and quality control with problems, field complaints defective products, and product-related questions from the field.
Determines test procedures and directs testing of products as required. Sees that test reports are prepared, distributed as required, and filed for future reference.
Sees that all necessary records and reports are maintained.
Is a fully competent engineer in all conventional aspects of product group area and the related tool area. Is capable of planning and conducting work requiring judgment in the independent evaluation, selection, and substantial adoption and modification of standard techniques, procedures, and criteria. Must be capable of devising new approaches to problems encountered. Works with all levels of the organization and with customer contacts as appropriate to define, cost, develop and produce the products required by our customers.
Educational equivalent of college degree in Engineering (preferably Mechanical with major in Machine/Tool Design) and three to five years related experience in the metal stamping industry with an emphasis on designing and building stamping tools.
