ADD ON, Inc. is seeking a Tool Designer for our client, an industry-leader in metal fabrication in the Twin Cities. This is a Direct-Hire opportunity.
POSITION TITLE: TOOL DESIGNER
To perform plan, schedule, direct and supervise the tool design, tool layout and programming of machinery/parts. To plan and aid in the construction and maintenance of dies and other tooling. Provide leadership and direction to ensure motivation of employees and production of tool design to meet customer requirements.
To evaluate procedures and production methods as a basis for improved tooling, efficiency and cost effectiveness.
To provide leadership and instruction to tool room and tool design personnel to ensure a working environment conducive to quality products being produced in an efficient, safe and cost effective manner.
MAJOR ARES OF RESPONSIBILITY:
Perform and/or direct the design, layout, construction and maintenance of dies and other tooling. Develop a tool design system using CAD that documents tool designs and layouts and makes the entire work center organized, productive and efficient
Work with the Sales Department to assure the delivery of quality and timely quotes.
Quote progressive tooling. Aid sales in progressive quotes.
Continually evaluate production methods used as a basis for improving tooling and production methods
Encourage personnel to offer suggestions/ideas that they feel will be beneficial to the operation of the plant and company.
Recommend purchase of new equipment to improve production efficiency and keep abreast of new technology available.
Inform or recommend to the Tool Room Manager, Director of Engineering or President any changes to tool room equipment or operation methods seen necessary to achieve efficient performance and cost effectiveness.
Review all jobs and tool design needs to plan the best use of personnel, equipment and methods of manufacturing.
Work with Production Control on all developments that could affect production, quality or customer delivery schedules.
Maintain good housekeeping practices and encourage orderly work procedures in the tool design area.
Work with the sales, as necessary, on quotations of new or difficult jobs.
Review and approve requisitions for purchases of all materials for tool design.
Coordinate all tool design operations to ensure efficient and timely work flow, productive work hours and control of overtime expenses.
Work with Scheduling, Manufacturing, Quality, Purchasing and Process Engineering to improve delivery, lead times, quality, reduction of scrap and rework cost and customer returns and allowances.
Support/Back up Tool Design Manager and Tool Room Manager in all Tool Room supervisory functions.
Salary Range: $45-$65k
Vacation, 401k, Health and Dental Insurance are available after 60 day probationary period.
