R.J. Reynolds Tobacco Company is seeking a toxicologist to support the development of new products consistent with RJRT's Growth, Innovation and Harm Reduction Platforms. The incumbent will be required to design toxicological programs, critically assess a broad range of toxicological information, and develop technical documents on a variety of scientific and risk assessment topics. Other responsibilities include assisting with the preparation of regulatory submissions. The individual will be required to interact with product development teams, laboratory scientists and management on a routine basis regarding the design and interpretation of toxicological studies. The individual must be able to manage and execute multiple projects involving chemical, in vitro and in vivo studies. The individual will actively collaborate with external vendors and with other RJRT functions to ensure R&D project timelines are met. Key responsibilities will include:
1. Safety evaluation of electronics and other materials used in our products.
2. The design and interpretation of appropriate chemical and toxicological studies to support product development and regulatory submissions.
3. Compilation of regulatory data packages to FDA/other relevant authorities.
4. The development of technical documents on a variety of scientific, risk assessment, and regulatory topics, including toxicological data summaries.
5. Oversight of pre-clinical toxicological testing programs through contract research organizations.
PhD in Toxicology, Pharmacology or related discipline with 5-7 years of work experience assessing medical devices (preferably those involving electronics) and preparing associated FDA regulatory submissions.
DABT certification is preferred.
Excellent project management and team work skills.
Excellent interpersonal, written/oral communication and presentation skills.
OTHER PREFERRED EXPERIENCE:
Knowledge of the toxicological assessment and FDA regulation of other consumer products is also beneficial.
