Job Title: Trade Compliance Specialist
Reporting to the VP-General Counsel, Curtiss-Wright Controls, Inc., Charlotte, NC, this position supports management in all legal and regulatory aspects of the Company’s global export and import activities, including licensing, compliance, training and a full spectrum of international trade issues. Primary duties include providing support to the Manager – Trade Compliance in all aspects of global trade licensing and compliance covered by the EAR, ITAR, AES, OFAC, Customs and similar regulations in non-US jurisdictions. The Trade Compliance Specialist works with the Company’s U.S. and international business units as needed to conduct jurisdiction analyses, submit Commodity Jurisdiction requests, identify and evaluate licensable transactions, prepare and submit export authorizations, conduct restricted party screening and monitor screening across business groups, assign and maintain export compliance training to business group employees, and undertake internal process improvement initiatives. The position will be heavily involved with compliance reviews and assessments, training and licensing.
The successful candidate must have the ability to work independently and thrive in a dynamic environment involving frequent interaction with internal export compliance personnel, program managers, marketing and sales personnel, contracts and procurement specialists, engineers, freight forward companies, auditors, in-house and outside counsel, and senior management. The candidate must be customer-focused, highly detail-oriented and adaptive to change.
This position performs tasks that require sound judgment and discretion in the application of export and import regulations. Candidates should possess a working knowledge of US import and export regulations with applicable related experience. Experience with non-US trade compliance is a plus. The incumbent will participate in developing compliance strategies in new and existing business relationships. The primary role is support for internal customers and interfacing with government agencies.
Essential Skills and Experience:
Working knowledge of ITAR, EAR, Customs, AES, and OFAC.
At least 5-7 years experience in a licensing or compliance related position. Knowledge of UK, Canada and other non-US export regimes is a plus.
Record of sound judgment and decision making.
Ability to work independently with minimal supervision.
Ability to communicate effectively, both oral and written.
Knowledge of Microsoft Office, DTRADE, SNAP-R, and Visual Compliance.
This position may require exposure to information which is subject to US International Traffic in Arms Regulations (ITAR) or the Export Administration regulations (EAR). All applicants must be U.S. Persons within the meaning of US regulations.
Minimum Education requirements:
Bachelor’s degree is preferred.
