Traffic Operations Controller- VDOT

Location : Fairfax, Virginia

Telvent, a part of Schneider Electric, currently has an outstanding opportunity for a passionate individual to assume the role of Traffic Operations Controller in Fairfax, Virginia. The primary responsibility of this position is to use cameras to search for and verify incidents, and activate the Dynamic Message Boards (DMS) to inform motorists of crashes, construction and congestions on the highways.

Responsibilities & Duties

Traffic Monitoring and Management
* Monitor traffic flow
* Identify incidents
* Dispatch SSP
* Coordinate with other organization such as Virginia State Police
* Operate the HOV lane flow in accordance with VDOT schedules
* Operate CMS, HAR and other related systems
* Data entry for use in the 511 traveler system
* Manage Roadwork

Incident Management
* Detect and verify incidents
* Initiate and coordinate response
* Document clearance items
* Disseminate incident information
* TOC Control Room shall notify SSP teams after identification of an incident as required
* Document all incidents into the Incident Management System, VOIS, and any other related and required data sharing or archival systems

TOC Maintenance
* Ensure all AMS work orders are submitted properly and efficiently for field maintenance.

Requirements
The ideal candidate will have specialized experience and subject matter knowledge in traffic systems control, freeway incident management, automated communication networks and systems, and the techniques and strategies of traffic information management and dissemination. The individual should have good verbal and written communication skills, be able to work in a team environment, be able to multitask, as well as the capability to make decisions in a complicated situation. Flexibility is a must as overnight, weekend work and shift rotation is required. Emergency response experience is a plus!

Education
High School graduate with some college preferred, 1-2 years general office experience is required. Must be able to pass a stringent background check, be proficient in the use of Microsoft Office Products and must be detail oriented and demonstrate good problem solving ability.
