The purpose of the position is to function as a member of a Maintenance Crew and perform any required manual labor or equipment operation necessary to maintain, repair and/or reconstruct roadway/highway, freeway, bridges and/or rest area facilities.
NOTE: Basque is a remote location and living in state housing on site is a requirement of this position. From the compound there is a view of Steens Mountain and Southeastern Oregon offers a variety of outdoor recreation and scenic views. The nearest schools are located in Jordan Valley, McDermitt or Crane and you will have to provide transportation if you have children who need to attend school.

Minimum Qualifications :
You must have:
Ø Two years of maintenance and/or construction experience in roadway/highway, bridge, sign, drawbridge or landscape, AND
Experience in each of the following areas:
· operating heavy and/or light motorized equipment;
· using hand and power tools;
· performing minor servicing of equipment, AND
· applying safety procedures. AND
Ø a Valid Class A Commercial Driver's License (CDLA) at the time of hire AND be able to obtain a Public Pesticide License within 6 months of hire
Criminal Background and additional pre-employment check(s) as required for the position will be conducted on final candidates (could include Driver License, LEDS, and/or Education Verification).

Roadway Surface and Shoulder Maintenance: Perform minor surface repair including hand, pothole and concrete patching, and small inlay work. Operate heavy trucks, rollers, blades and motor graders to patch large sections of highway, remove slides, build/repair roadway shoulders and bike paths, and perform minor betterment construction. Perform manual work such as raking or shoveling asphalt on a paving crew. Sweep highway facilities such as shoulders, intersections, gore points, curbed sections, and structures using motorized sweeper or hand broom. Clean-up of sidewalks, graffiti, berm paving, bridge walks, islands, and gorepoints using mechanical and manual means.
Weather-related Operations: Operate frame mounted tailgate and tag-along sanders, deicer trucks and spreaders to sand roadways. Operate rotary snow plows and truck mounted push plows to clear snow from roadway. Operate motor graders to cut “Snow Pack” from the roadway.
Traffic Services Maintenance: Maintain, repair or replace metal guardrail, concrete barriers, fences, glare screens, roadway delineators or milepost markers. Set out temporary traffic control signs and devices and flag traffic to protect the traveling public and work crews. Control traffic and clean up the roadway in emergency situations involving accidents and spills which may include hazardous materials.
Drainage Maintenance: Clean catch basins and related closed drainage systems using hand tools or power equipment. Dig and clean ditches using hand shovel or by operating motorized equipment including front end loaders, backhoes, graders, light and/or heavy trucks. Ditch cleaning includes removing silt and accumulated debris from culverts or inlets. Repair culverts, inlets and erosion.
Roadside and Vegetation Management: Clean brush on right-of-way using chainsaws, motorized brush cutters and brush chippers. Mow grass in median areas and right-of-way using tractors or truck-mounted mowers. Spray roadside vegetation as required. Pick up and dispose of debris, dead animals and/or litter found on the roadway and adjacent right-of-way. Repair and rebuild fences. May perform rest area maintenance.
