Position Summary

ODOT13-0123OC - Roseburg
The purpose of this position is to function as a member of the Region 3 Traffic Marking Crew and will require travel out side of your tax home to perform any required manual labor or equipment operation necessary to maintain, repair and/or reconstruct roadway/highway, freeway, bridges and/or rest area facilities. This includes winter emergency response such as but not limited to plowing and chain detail.
This is a Limited Duration appointment that will end on or before 11/01/2013. Limited Duration appointments are regular status, benefits eligible, with a designated maximum length of service.
This position is represented by the Service Employees International Union (SEIU/OPEU).
Employee will be required to use a vehicle to conduct business; you must possess and maintain a current, valid driver's license and have or be able to obtain a commercial driver's license, CDLA, and a Tanker endorsement within 6 months of hire.

Minimum Qualifications :
Two years of maintenance and/or construction experience in roadway/highway, bridge, sign, drawbridge or landscape, AND
Experience in each of the following areas:
A) operating heavy and/or light motorized equipment;
B) using hand and power tools;
C) performing minor servicing of equipment,; AND
D) applying safety procedures AND
A Class A Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) and a Tanker Endorsement or the ability to obtain the license and endorsement within 6 months.
Criminal Background and additional pre-employment check(s) as required for the position will be conducted on final candidates (could include Driver License, LEDS, and/or Education Verification).

Application Help:
Position Duties

Striping/Traffic Line Operations (seasonal ): Work includes all tasks requisite to the various phases of Striping Operations. Perform manual labor work and operate a variety of heavy and light equipment and/or tools. Apply, maintain and/or replace roadway/highway striping and/or legends. Remove existing paint using sand blasting or grinding equipment. Read and interpret plans and layouts for projects. Operate and maintain striping equipment and vehicles (dura-stripe). Work closely with hazardous materials such as epoxy/paints, water based paints, thermo plastics, thinners, acetone, etc. May determine layout work for contractors. Review areas for specific problem areas where litigation may occur.
Weather-related Operations: Operate frame mounted tailgate and tag-along sanders, deicer trucks and spreaders to sand roadways. Operate rotary snowplows and truck mounted push plows to clear snow from the roadway. Operate motor graders to cut “Snow Pack” from the roadway.
Drainage Maintenance: Clean catch basins and related closed drainage systems using hand tools or power equipment. Dig and clean ditches using hand shovel or by operating motorized equipment including front-end loaders, backhoes, graders, light and/or heavy trucks. Ditch cleaning includes removing silt and accumulated debris from culverts or inlets. Repair culverts, inlets and erosion.
Equipment Maintenance: Maintain equipment in sound working order: change oil, lubricate and grease as required; check lighting systems; tighten nuts and bolts; perform minor tune-ups; make minor repairs and keep accurate service records on equipment. May operate electric arc welder and gas cutting and welding equipment.
General Service: Perform minor building maintenance including sweeping floors, cleaning toilets, painting and light carpentry. Perform related tasks as required.
