Position Summary ODOT12-0527OC - Baker City - Seasonal The purpose of this job/position is to function as a member of a maintenance crew and perform any required manual labor or equipment operation necessary to maintain, repair and/or reconstruct roadway/highway, freeway, bridges and/or rest area facilities. This position is classified at the Transportation Maintenance Specialist 2 level, however, we encourage candidates who meet the minimum qualifications of the Transportation Maintenance Specialist 1 level to apply (Salary $2416 - $3434 monthly). We may underfill the position until the selected candidate fulfills the minimum qualifications for the Transportation Maintenance Specialist 2 level. Underfill training will not exceed 2 years . May be exposed to blood borne pathogens, hypodermic needles, cleaning solvents, acid drain openers, etc. Required to wear safety equipment to perform specific job tasks (i.e., fall protection, hard hats safety vests, steel toed boots etc.). May be exposed to hazardous materials during accident cleanup. Must be able to do heavy manual work in hazardous locations. May be required to be available for emergency calls, 24 hours/day, 7 days/week, including holidays; or be On-Call. May be required to work rotating or night shifts. May be required to travel overnight or for extended periods of time. May be exposed to hazardous chemicals such as fumigants used to treat wooden members, various pesticides, herbicides and various dyes used to check for cracks in steel members May be required to drive heavy and light motor vehicles/equipment for extended periods of time. This position is represented by the Service Employees International Union (SEIU/OPEU). Requires a maximum 45-minute response time for emergency call-outs (depending on crew size, location, etc.). Employee will be required to use a vehicle to conduct business; you must possess and maintain a current, valid driver's license and Class A Commercial Driver’s License. Minimum Qualifications : You must have: Full Level TMS2 Two years of maintenance and/or construction experience in roadway/highway, bridge, sign, drawbridge or landscape, AND Experience in each of the following areas: · operating heavy and/or light motorized equipment; · using hand and power tools; · performing minor servicing of equipment, AND · applying safety procedures. Perform manual labor and operate a variety of heavy and light equipment and/or tools. Respond to weather-related emergencies by assessing the need for and performing snow removal, de-icing or sanding to keep roadways, highways and bridges open for the traveling public. Operate frame mounted, tailgate and tag-along sanders, deicer trucks and spreaders to sand roadways. Operate rotary snow plows and truck mounted push plows to clear snow from the roadway. Operate motor graders to cut “Snow Pack” from the roadway. Roadway Surface and Shoulder Maintenance: Perform minor surface repair including hand, pothole and concrete patching, and small inlay work. Operate heavy trucks, rollers, blades and motor graders to patch large sections of highway, remove slides, build/repair roadway shoulders and bike paths, and perform minor betterment construction. Perform manual work such as raking or shoveling asphalt on a paving crew. Sweep highway facilities such as shoulders, intersections, gore points, curbed sections, and structures using motorized sweeper or hand broom. Clean-up of sidewalks, graffiti, berm paving, bridge walks, islands, and gorepoints using mechanical and manual means. Traffic Services Maintenance: Maintain, repair or replace metal guardrail, concrete barriers, fences, glare screens, roadway delineators or milepost markers. Set out temporary traffic control signs and devices and flag traffic to protect the traveling public and work crews. Control traffic and clean up the roadway in emergency situations involving accidents and spills which may include hazardous materials. Drainage Maintenance: Clean catch basins and related closed drainage systems using hand tools or power equipment. Dig and clean ditches using hand shovel or by operating motorized equipment including front end loaders, backhoes, graders, light and/or heavy trucks. Ditch cleaning includes removing silt and accumulated debris from culverts or inlets. Repair culverts, inlets and erosion. Roadside and Vegetation Management: Clean brush on right-of-way using chainsaws, motorized brush cutters and brush chippers. Mow grass in median areas and right-of-way using tractors or truck-mounted mowers. Spray roadside vegetation as required. Pick up and dispose of debris, dead animals and/or litter found on the roadway and adjacent right-of-way. Repair and rebuild fences. May perform rest area maintenance.
