Job Overview:

Recruits, schedules, directs, and coordinates the activities of all company owned and hired trucks in their day to day activities delivering materials produced in APAC’s asphalt plants, quarries, and other production facilities. Informs, educates, facilitates, and ensures that company and leased drivers fulfill all contracted obligations including APAC and DOT regulations, policies, and procedures pertaining to leased drivers and the safe, timely delivery of materials from APAC production facilities to the end use customer.

Qualifications:
  • Requires 3-4 years related work experience
  • High School graduate with 2-4 years of college preferred
  • Bachelor’s Degree preferred
  • Prior supervisory and scheduling experience
  • Prior experience/exposure to truck drivers
  • Knowledge of operating or capital budgets
  • Knowledge of product or raw materials handled or purchased
  • Profit & Loss experience

Primary Functions:
  • Coordinates the production of company owned trucks and hired trucks in terms of number of loads required by production facility or project specific location
  • Responsible for managing all company owned heavy trucks and drivers
  • Coordinates recruiting and preparation of all potential leased trucks, and company owned truck drivers, and the appropriate paperwork and policy sign offs before scheduling them to deliver materials from APAC production facilities
  • Works closely with APAC HR in recruiting and hiring of company truck drivers, and the preparation of all paperwork associated with the new hire or transfer
  • Ensures compliance with all current applicable DOT and APAC rules, regulations, and procedures
  • Coordinates scheduling of company owned trucks and leased trucks to ensure adequate safe, timely, delivery capacity is available to each APAC production facility within the Company’s base of operations to the end use customer
  • Evaluates performance of each leased trucks and their compliance to their contract with APAC and all APAC and applicable DOT regulations, rules, and procedures along with their ability to deliver materials from APAC production facilities to the end use customer safely, and in a timely fashion. Determines whether leased truck performance lends itself to contract continuation or termination based on performance results
  • Works in close cooperation with the Company’s Estimating group in providing information on trucking rates on proposed projects up for bid. Works with leased truck companies to ensure that competitive rates are established that allow us to be competitive at the bid table yet ensuring that we and the leased truck may both prosper and continue to serve the marketplace
  • Works closely with other members of management, supervision, and members of the production team to seamlessly assure availability of materials via an adequate number of leased trucks to maximize the ability of the production team to meet or exceed their production goals. Works closely with the Area Manager I – Materials, Production Manager I – Asphalt, Production Manager I – and other production supervisory personnel
  • Serves as a resource to leased trucks with respect to questions, comments or situations that may rise affecting their ability to perform to the best of their ability and to the contract between they and APAC
  • Performs other duties as assigned by Company management in support of Company’s goals and objectives
