We are seeking a mid-level transportation safety specialist/planner/engineer to work in one of our offices experienced with working with state highway safety offices, departments of transportation, metropolitan planning organizations, and/or the U.S. Department of Transportation (DOT), all modes, especially the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) and the Federal Highway Administration (FHWA). The ideal candidate has an understanding of U.S. DOT grant and research programs, the Federal role in transportation safety, multidisciplinary safety countermeasures, performance-based planning and measurement, and transportation safety data. This individual will work within a multidisciplinary team to provide technical support to safety projects and programs; facilitate and document client meetings; write technical papers and reports; maintain excellent customer service; support project managers with progress reports and fiscal management; and assist with proposal writing and development.

Qualifications: Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in fields related to transportation safety work, e.g. transportation safety planning (infrastructure and/or behavioral), safety engineering, communications, etc. or civil engineering, urban and regional planning, etc. and 4-years applied work experience in the public or private sector. Must possess excellent interpersonal, oral, and written communication skills; organizational skills, attention to detail, and the ability to provide technical and fiscal support to safety projects. Must have the ability to effectively interface with external clients and all levels of the internal organization. Knowledge of national safety-related transportation member organizations, such as GHSA, ITE, TRB, AASHTO, and the SCOHTS standing committee preferred.
