This position is labor intensive and the employee will be required to work in a diverse working environment; in all weather conditions, heavy traffic and traffic moving at high speeds. Must be able to follow oral and written instructions. Safety toe footwear is required for this position. N.C. Commercial Driver’s License Class "A" with appropriate endorsements is required within 60 days of employment. Pre-employment drug testing is required for this position. A release form (ALCDRG-01) and a background statement (ALCDRG-06) must be completed and signed, allowing NCDOT to check with previous employers for the past two years about controlled substance and alcohol testing.

Minimum Education and Experience Requirements:

Requirements vary depending on the section to which the transportation worker is assigned. Entry level : high school; or equivalent. Necessary Special Requirement: ability to obtain N.C. Commercial Driver's License during probation period. Intermediate level: high school plus two years of related experience according to the functional area of assignment, or equivalent. Journey level: high school plus four years of related experience according to the functional area of assignment; or equivalent. Advanced level: high school plus seven years of related experience according to the functional area of assignment, or equivalent. Please refer to the transportation worker class specification for specific experience and certifications required for bridge maintenance, traffic services, roadside environmental, and maintenance areas.
