PART I - General Job / Performance InformationEducation and ExperienceGraduation from an accredited School of Nursing. Three years of professional nursing experience, Bachelor's of Science degree in Nursing preferred with a minimum of 3 years experience in the specific clinical area. Supervisory experience desired.Environmental / Working ConditionsWorks in a well-lighted, heated and ventilated building. Hours may vary to accomodate needs in the department as prescribed by the philosophy of the hospital. Exposure to blood born pathogens is high risk.Interaction with Other Departments and Other RelationshipsThis position must interact closely with the medical staff and other ancillary ares in order to faciliate a quality multidisciplinary approach to patient care.Job DescriptionThe Clinical Instructor: works in cooperation with nursing staff, physicians, and members of related health services to create a learning environment in which nursing and othe staff can develop knowledge and skills toward our goal to provide optimal, achievable patient care, serves as role model, resource person and educator, functions within the framework of established philosophies and objectives of University Medical Center and Nursing Services.Required Licensures / Certificiations / RegistrationsCurrent RN licensure from Texas State Board of Nurse Examiners.Physical CapabilitiesWork is of medium demand; walking, sitting and standing most of the time while on duty. Occasional lifting of patinets with assistance is required. Adequate hand/eye coordination and fine motor skills required. Talking and hearing is essential in instructing and supervising of nursing personnel and in receiving doctor's orders and patient's condition reports. Near visual acuity required to work with charts and records and to observe patients.Skills and AbilitiesAge specific knowledge is required when needed for appropriate patient care. Must be able to employ adult learning strategies in relation to educational activities. All Clinical Instructors are responsible to provide BLS. BLS instructor status is highly recommended, but may be delegated to other nursing staff in the unit. Instructor status is required in a at least one of the following areas: NRP, PALS, ACLS to correlate with staff nurse requirements in each unit.
