Performs diagnostic sonographic examinations utilizing ultrasonic equipment to locate, evaluate and record critical functional, pathological, and anatomical data. Schedules and coordinates tests, records test results, and prepares and maintains operational logs. Calibrates and maintains equipment and orders supplies when needed.
Duties & Responsibilities:
Advises radiologists or referring physicians of significant abnormalities that would require their immediate attention and visualization while the patient is undergoing examination. Performs ultrasound examinations of the abdomen, neck, chest and extremities, retroperitoneal space for the purpose of acquiring high quality examinations that assists in the diagnosis and treatment of patient medical disorders. Participates in the training of physicians, students and radiology technicians so that these individuals may acquire an understanding of the principles of ultrasound and how it relates to other diagnostic exams. Performs routine clerical procedures for the purpose of maintaining accurate ultrasound records so that easy recall of patient examination may be achieved. May be required to perform diagnostic radiographic examinations. Maintains adequate supplies so that examinations are not delayed due to lack of necessary equipment and supplies. Assists the radiologist in the performance of cyst punctures, aspiration biopsies, and catheter placements for the purpose of diagnostic treatment using ultrasound techniques. Develops and maintains patient prep procedures so that patients and wards understand the proper preparations for ultrasound examinations in an effort to minimize delays of examinations. Assists quality assurance technologists in performing quality assurance testing on the ultrasound unit using phantoms, test tools, tech check lists, etc. for the purpose of assuring peak performance of the ultrasound equipment. Performs or supervises routine housekeeping duties that the ultrasound area is clean and sanitary.
U.S. Citizenship Required Must pass pre-employment examination if required. Background and/or Security Investigation required. Designated and/or random drug testing may be required. English language proficiency required.
Must be a graduate of a formal Diagnostic Medical Sonography Program that is accredited by the Commission on Accreditation of Allied Health Education Programs (CAAHEP) is required. Active certification by American Registry of Diagnostic Medical Sonographers (ARDMS) in the specialty (ies) as appropriate
ECHOCARDIOGRAPHY EXPERIENCE REQUIRED.
We prefer 2+ years of experience for this opening. SECURITY CLEARANCE IS REQUIRED.
