The Underwriter is responsible for ensuring new business growth, renewal retention, and overall profitability of an assigned underwriting territory. The Underwriter oversees the activities of an Underwriting team including but not limited to: underwriting new and renewal business, training and developing team members, and maintaining mutually beneficial relationships with agents/producers to ensure writing of profitable risks; all while providing exemplary customer service.
Essential Functions
Evaluating new business and renewal submissions; accepting or rejecting through exposure identification and loss control
Considering profitability and appropriate loss ratio for underwriting territory through effective pricing while maintaining a suitable retention ratio
Quoting and/or issuing all endorsements for the Underwriting team beyond the authority of the other members of the team within the company established timelines
Additional duties as assigned
Responding timely to inquiries from agents and policyholders regarding quotes, endorsements, renewals, cancellations, requests for additional coverage, and issues regarding changes in coverage and/or price
Developing and maintaining mutually beneficial relationships with agents and their staff by educating them regarding Company policies, procedures and requirements through routine phone contact and regularly scheduled agency visits
Develops and maintains an expertise in our niche

Qualifications
Four-year degree in insurance or related field of study preferred or comparable experience
Intermediate level proficiency in Microsoft Word and Microsoft Outlook
Knowledge of and ability to apply appropriate mathematical functions as necessary to make projections, identify, and analyze problems
Ability to solve practical problems where standardization exists
