Due to growth, HCC Specialty (HCCS) (www.hccspecialty.com) has an immediate opening for an Underwriting Assistant to join our Excess Casualty team. This position will be based out of the Chicago, IL office of HCC Specialty. HCCS is a division of HCC Insurance Holdings, Inc. ('HCC Insurance'), comprised of HCC Specialty Underwriters, Inc. (HCCSU), Professional Indemnity Agency, Inc. (PIA) and HCC Public Risk. HCCS underwrites a unique portfolio of specialty and niche products. These include: disability insurance for professional athletes and entertainers, kidnap & ransom, event cancellation for major sporting and entertainment events, earthquake insurance, special event liability, weather insurance, prize indemnity insurance, product recall insurance, primary and excess casualty, various professional liability classes (including but not limited to employment practice liability and architects & engineers) and various niche programs including public risk and lumber and wood products.Eligible candidates for this position should have a minimum of 2 years of experience in an office environment. This is a fast-paced, high transaction volume position with tight deadlines. This position will report to the Senior Vice President. JOB RESPONSIBILITIES: Administer the day-to-day activities of the Excess Casualty program, which includes: Issue policies and endorsements for above programs; Prepare initial underwriting analysis for review by Underwriter for select accounts; Input bound risks into accounting system and invoice clients; Prepare and draft correspondence such as quote letters, memorandums, declinations, or invoices, using mail, fax, or other electronic means; Answer phone and resolve basic inquiries or forward call to appropriate contact for resolution. Initiate phone calls to brokers and other parties to secure information or provide update status; Prepare, process, and assemble approved policies, renewals and other supplemental documents for distribution; Forward requested underwriting files and related documents to internal departments such as Claims, Accounting, etc.; Assist in managing the workflow of underwriting files from start to finish (i.e. input, policy issuance, licensing issues, surplus lines issues, follow-ups to broker, etc.); Prepare Certificates of Insurance and endorsements and send directly to clients; Assist in other projects/duties as requested.
POSITION SKILLS AND REQUIREMENTS: Associates degree in Business Administration or related field is preferred, or the equivalent experience Minimum of two years of relevant and progressive office/clerical experience acquired from working in insurance underwriting or related industry Must possess strong PC skills including MS Office (Outlook, Word, and Excel) and Internet applications Excellent verbal and written communication and customer service skills Basic math skills Must be detail and results oriented with a high degree of accuracy Strong organizational and time management skills required Ability to prioritize multiple responsibilities and thoroughly complete assigned tasks within tight deadlines Able to maintain a high degree of confidentiality at all times Flexibility to work outside normal business hours as needed Ability to work in a team environment Maintenance of good attendance is a condition of employment and an essential function of the job If your experience matches these requirements, please send your resume WITH A COVER LETTER INCLUDING SALARY REQUIREMENTS/HISTORY to resumes@hccsu.com.
