Computer Science Teacher – Upper School
Part Time Position (0.2 FTE)
Lakeside School, an independent coeducational day school located in North Seattle, is currently recruiting for a Part Time Computer Science Teacher for the Upper School. This position is for the Spring 2013 semester and will begin mid-January 2013. The course introduces students to computer programming through the Lua, Python or other program language. The successful teacher candidate will enjoy a highly collaborative work environment that values innovation and creativity.
The Part Time Computer Science Teacher, reporting to the Upper School Math Department Head, will join a department that consists of 10 faculty members. Specific responsibilities include:
Teaching one (1) section of a semester long Computer Science 1. Maximum class sizes are set at 18 students, with the average size being 15 to 16;
Providing academic support for students outside of class time (answering homework questions, providing extra help) as needed;
Actively collaborating and participating in the work the department members put into innovative curriculum development, pedagogy, and assessment;
Providing written comments at the end of the term for each student.
Requirements and Qualifications
Successful candidates will hold at least a Bachelor’s degree in computer science or a related field; have a passion for interacting with high school level students, in and out of the classroom (teaching experience with high school level students is preferred); be comfortable with all aspects of a computer development process, the ethics and security issues surrounding computer use today; and possess the ability to connect with a broad range of learners. Candidates must successfully complete a criminal background check.
Compensation Rate: $37.50 per class up to a maximum of $150/day.
Long-term substitute teaching assignments will be paid $165/day for the 15 th day in the same assignment (retroactive to the first day of that assignment).
