Assists in the operation of a plant facilities’ various equipment/systems including, but not limited to: cryogenic plant processing, hydrocarbon fractionation units, process controls and measurement, pumps, pressure relief system instrument air system, dehydrators, fuel system, emergency shutdown systems, gas turbines, reciprocating compressors, steam turbines, gas fired boilers, process pumps, amine treating systems, inlet gas receivers and NGL storage and transfer facilities. Also operates radio, performs lab tests for quality assurance, diagnoses mechanic problems, makes minor repairs as needed, and various other duties as assigned. Assists in responding to alarms and problems within the plant and with direction, makes appropriate corrections. The selected candidate may be required to pass all Process Safety Management (PSM), Department of Transportation (DOT) and facility specific operator certifications.
May be required to train to become qualified to work relief for the Plant Operator classification.
Works indoors & outdoors, in and around mechanical, industrial and electrical equipment. Required to climb about equipment and work in confined areas (i.e. tanks, between compressors, vessels). Works in temperature extremes due to weather conditions and operating equipment. Wears safety equipment as required. Uses physical force to lift, push, pull and hold equipment/tools. Climbs and works at various heights. May work in a standing, sitting, lying down, crouched or kneeling position. Routinely reacts to visual, aural and other signals, including alarms and instructions, and is required to visually inspect work. Regularly bends, stoops, moves from ground level to higher levels, raises/lifts from ground level a load up to 50 lbs., manually transports a load up to 75 lbs., and applies up to 100 foot pounds of torque. Regularly gets into and out of vehicles and rides over rough roads. Must be able to lift and put on emergency breathing apparatus and/or protective equipment. Candidates may be subject to DOT drug and alcohol testing requirements. Works overtime as needed.
This job may be staffed as a Utility I or Utility II depending on qualifications and experience of the successful candidate.
High school degree or GED
Valid driver’s license and acceptable driving record
Must be able to follow written or spoken work instructions in English
Must be willing to work overtime as needed
Previous experience in the oil and gas industry
Mechanical or instrumentation background is helpful, but not required
Able to pass all Process Safety Management (PSM), Department of Transportation (DOT) and facility specific operator certifications.
Able to perform basic mathematical equations
Able to assume responsibility, perform duties and handle tasks under potentially stressful and/or hazardous conditions
