The Utility Operator - C Shift will be responsible for operating and maintaining braid processing equipment. Skeining/Unskeining machine: set-up and operate skeining/unskeining machine within requirements; record number of skeins and assign lot numbers; apply identification tickets. Tubing machine: set-up and operate tubing machine within requirements; apply identification tickets. Singeing machine: set-up and operate singeing machine within requirements; apply identification tickets. Hotstretch machine: set-up and operate hotstretch machine within requirements; apply identification tickets. Inspection: perform inspection by use of electronic device to check the quality of the braided material; identify, remove, or repair all defects to ensure highest quality standards are met; perform minor adjustments on inspection machine sensitivity to specifications. Coating: weigh and mix coating solution according to specification requirements; set-up coating equipment and run suture material through coating drops; maintain coating solution in tanks and have a droplet of solution suspended on coating heads at all times; maintain process control charts. Waxing: operate waxer unit to wax silk or nylon sutures; prepare wax according to the specifications; add wax to melt pots to maintain desired levels; cut and change wipes. This individual will be fully cross-trained on all tasks listed above as assignments will be made at the start of the shift to determine which job task will be assigned.
The Utility Operator will also be responsible for performing other work-related duties as assigned by supervisor/facilitator. Follow current compliance regulations and standards that comply with all federal regulated programs. Adhere to FDA quality and worldwide quality systems requirements. Ensure safe working conditions and practices within the department. Maintain accurate production records. Follow written specifications to manufacture product. Use associated test equipment (i.e. Starett Gauge, Federal Gauge, Mitutoyo Gauge, Microscope). Demonstrate ability to consistently meet required work performance targets (RE's). Demonstrate teamwork in identifying, evaluating and resolving problems within the department. Support Maintenance Excellence including 6-S and Operator Asset Care. Support LEAN and Six Sigma initiatives. Maintain certification for testing.
A minimum of a High school diploma, G.E.D. or equivalent required. A minimum of 1 year of experience in a manufacturing environment is preferred. Experience working in a Good Manufacturing Practice (GMP) environment preferred. Experience with textile/braid processing equipment preferred. Basic computer skills required. Must have excellent communication and interpersonal skills. Must have strong analytical problem solving skills. The ability to add, subtract, multiply, divide, compute percentages and work with decimals and fractions required. Must have the ability to use the following: diameter gauge, tensiometer, label making equipment, scales, calculator. The ability to maintain production records is required. Must have the ability to manage multiple tasks and various processes and coordinate with other departments to effectively perform job duties. The ability to lift/carry up to 30 pounds unaided and stand and/or walk more than 80% of the time required. Must be able to work rotating 12 hour night shifts (C Shift) (7:00pm- 7:00am), which will include alternating weekends. The ability to work occasional overtime and some holidays is required.
