Job Description-Overview :
The Small Animal Medicine Section provides high quality medical care and treatment to patients seen in the FHSA. In addition, this section creates a positive learning experience for TUSVM students and student technicians with regard to small animal medicine and supports the training of small animal medicine technicians.
This position is responsible for:
Providing high quality nursing care to inpatient medicine, surgery, exotic, and isolation patients requiring various degrees of treatment.
Providing assistance to the ECC section as determined by supervisor and caseload.
Providing assistance to veterinarians and students with regard to inpatient treatments and procedures and may be required to supervise and instruct veterinary students on small animal medicine rotation.
Job Description - Requirements :
Basic Requirements: High School Diploma or equivalent with minimum one year of related experience. CVT or licensure eligible. Basic computer skills. Ability to lift up to 50 lbs with or without accommodation.
Preferred Qualifications: Two plus years experience in a small animal practice. An Associate's or Bachelor's degree in Veterinary Technology or related field and CVT are preferred. Candidate should possess the ability to handle a high caseload and stressful situations. Following direction and prioritizing the workload is a necessity. Candidate should have a good understanding of medical terminology and familiarity with veterinary pharmacology. Technical abilities should include patient restraint, phlebotomy, knowledge of fluid administration, medicating, monitoring and treating patients. This position requires good interpersonal skills in relating to co-workers, clinicians, students, staff and clients. Candidate should be highly motivated, enthusiastic self-starter with a professional attitude. Flexibility with work schedule is a must.
Special Work Schedule Requirements: Overnights. Schedule will include some holidays, both University and calendar, and weekend coverage as well as participation in an on-call schedule. The small animal medicine staff are considered essential personnel and are therefore required to report to work as scheduled during emergency closings.
