We're seeking a creative, experienced, web-savvy VIDEO WRITER/PRODUCER who specializes in creating innovative and compelling short-form informational, social media-style video content for online audiences.

The Video Writer/Producer will write, produce, and direct videos for Common Sense Media's website. The Video Writer/Producer will manage development, planning, and production of videos. Videos include a variety of short-form products like how-to vidoes, advice, review, training, and marketing-style content. This position reports to the Video Department Director. This full-time role is located in San Francisco; paid relocation is not available.

  • Write treatments, scripts, and video descriptions
  • Create shot lists and storyboards
  • Provide input on video style and product innovation
  • Plan and oversee video shoots
  • Schedule and direct talent and crew
  • Locate and schedule interview subjects as needed
  • Conduct on-camera interviews
  • Oversee the editing of video products
  • Oversee rights and releases
  • Manage project budgets
  • Work on multiple projects with overlapping deadlines
  • Maintain broadcast quality on all video products
  • At least 5 years experience writing scripts and producing videos in the non-fiction entertainment genre required
  • At least 2 years experience producing short-form videos for website audiences required
  • Experience managing every phase of production, from scripting to directing to post producion
  • Experience managing crews, talent, and budgets
  • Proven ability to juggle multiple projects required
  • Experience interviewing children as well as adults preferred
  • Hands-on experience with Final Cut Pro, as well as studio and field production required
  • Knowledgeable about various shooting and editing styles and techniques
  • Experience working with Motion Graphics design required
  • Experience creating short-form how-to, advice, review, training, and promotional content required
  • Experience creating social media-style video content preferred
  • Experience writing/producing for the parent market preferred
  • Bachelor's degree in Broadcast TV or a related field preferred
  • Highly creative, with a strong visual sensibility and sense of pacing
  • Able to weave easily between storytelling, informational, and message-driven content
  • Strong leadership skills, with amazing troubleshooting/problem solving abilities
  • Multi-tasker with proven ability to remain calm in a fast-paced production
  • Self-driven, fast on your feet, and willing to chip in as needed
  • Excellent communication and organizational skills
  • Excellent attention to detail and follow through
  • Great client relations and proven ability to tranlsate requests into compelling videos
  • Strong work ethic, with proven ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously
  • Proven ability to efficiently meet deadlines on budget
  • Comfortable in a fast-paced, deadline-driven environment
  • Collaborative, responsible, and dependable, with an upbeat "can do" attitude
  • Comfortable taking direction, working independently, and in teams
  • Up to date on all things related to media and technology and comfortable tackling media-related issues, especially as they relate to kids and families
