THE RESPONSIBILITIES :
The Vice President, Director of Research of Red Light Project plays a key part in developing primary research designs that provide insights for advertising campaigns for a range of products and services. Their role is to combine the attitudes and interests of consumers, clients and creatives to help planners produce effective advertising. Acting as the voice of the consumer, researchers use data to identify ideal audiences and optimum methods of communication to effectively reach those audiences. Business development is sourced as part of the offering to Zimmerman clients as well as independently of Zimmerman to grow revenues and profits.
Day to Day Duties:
Manage department processes, budgets, and resources
Oversee development of all strategic deliverables
Present research findings, strategic insights and human analysis of consumer and market trends
Development of positioning and approach to consumer segments for clients
Partner and collaborate with strategic planning to deliver insights to internal creative, account service, business development and executive teams to meet client and agency goals
Ensure all agency marketing and communication strategies that are fueled by customer insight
Analyze current business categories and develop ownable positioning based on identifying new opportunities in the marketplace for the agency and its clients
Design, manage and analyze research, develop brand positionings, and provide creative insight resulting in communications that resonate with target audiences
Recommend strategic direction that will contribute toward increased business and stronger marketing strategies for clients
Monitor and interpret cultural and social trends relative to the clients business.
Conduct and oversee competitive qualitative and quantitative research and trend analyses
Analyze a wide range of information in great detail to gain a comprehensive view of the competitive landscape. This may include demographics; socio-economics and the market for the client's product and market share; commissioning research from outside organizations, as required, to inform advertising strategies
This may require the use of:
Using both qualitative methods, such as focus group discussions and structured interviews, and quantitative methods, such as demographic profiling and questionnaires; running qualitative research groups
Monitoring cultural and social trends, and their impact on consumers' attitudes, behavior and perceptions
Using a variety of market and research data
Finding an 'angle' on a specific product or service on which to base an advertising campaign
Researching the product or service, which may involve gaining technical or specific knowledge; reconciling the differences between consumers' current perceptions of the brand and the way in which the client wishes the brand to be perceived
Meeting the client to learn the background to the brand and advising on possible approaches or adaptation of approach to the target market
Providing the creative team with a clearly defined brief that contains concise information on the product, audience and strategy enabling them to develop creative ideas that may be applied to a variety of media channels that will promote the idea most effectively
Presenting conclusions and ideas to clients and other agency staff
Analyzing and interpreting customer response and sales data in order to evaluate the effectiveness of the campaign
12+ years of relevant experience
Post-graduate degree in English, marketing, anthropology, sociology, psychology or other social science – MBA preferred
5+ years managing the P&L of a group, division or business in the defined industry
Hands-on experience with qualitative and quantitative research methods
Outstanding morale and team-building skills
Extensive client development experience
Proven business and negotiation skills
Must be able to travel both domestic and internationally as necessary
Must be able to cover all costs associated with travel, to be reimbursed by the company in accordance with the company expense reimbursement policy
