Vice President, Research and Development (Euro-Pro Management Company; Newton, Massachusetts): Manage and lead the technology and design innovation teams for a range of products including vacuum cleaners, steam and chemical floor care cleaners, and heated and motorized kitchen appliances. Manage the implementation of engineering and design quality procedures, and provide leadership for product design and development teams. Oversee and guide engineering process improvements, and detail product design through manufacture and pre-production stages underway in China. Coordinate contributions of external technology and product development companies who have a role in the delivery of product innovation and technology. Lead and promote using advanced knowledge of industrial design to ensure excellence in the technology, innovation, and design of company products. Formally report product design and development progress and strategies directly to senior executive team, and is responsible for maintaining budgetary controls. A highly creative lateral thinker, the position evaluates and delivers innovative and groundbreaking solutions. Operate in a high pressure environment with rapidly changing targets. Function as a highly skilled spokesperson leading design and engineering capacities in a business environment, who questions the status quo and drives ‘New Thinking’.
Minimum requirements are: Bachelor’s degree or the equivalent in Industrial Design, Engineering, or a related field plus 10 years of experience in a Design Engineering leadership role or related position, which must include the following: managing a team of employees performing design and development of consumer goods including floor care and kitchen consumer appliances; implementing process improvement initiatives in a design and engineering environment, specifically managing product development teams involved in new product and design innovation (NPI), R&D, and product engineering; and 5 years design and engineering experience in non-US markets including Europe and the Far East. Must have: demonstrated knowledge of the design, specifications and integration of products containing systems including batteries, motors, separation and filtration systems, airflow control, noise and vibration, mechanical systems and drives, heating systems, plastics and pressed metal design, industrial design, HW and SW electronics, and user interaction design; demonstrated knowledge of Injection Molding, CAD, and CAM; advanced knowledge of taking designs from idea generation to manufacture in China and SE Asia; advanced knowledge of quality design management tools including DFMEA, ‘Design to Cost’, and ‘Design for Manufacture’, as well as proven experience with managing product development cycles through stage gate process control; demonstrated knowledge of the management and coordination of Far Eastern manufacturers and suppliers; and demonstrated knowledge of the management of department budgets including forecasting, tracking, and reporting budgetary status. Frequent travel to the Far East is required.
