Performs intermediate semiskilled work operating and maintaining a passenger van or mini-bus in accordance with program specifications and general safety requirements; does related work as required. Work is performed under regular supervision
Essential Job Functions*:
Ability to sit and drive for extended periods; Ability to assist disabled and non-disabled passengers on and off vehicle. Vocal communication is required for expressing or exchanging ideas by means of the spoken word. Hearing is required to perceive information at normal spoken word levels. Visual acuity is required for depth perception, peripheral vision, determining the accuracy and thoroughness of work, and observing general surroundings and activities. Worker is subject to inside and outside environmental conditions, noise, and vibration.
Operate transportation program vehicle to provide transportation to and from medical, recreational, shopping, social and other activities; Assists disabled and non-disabled persons onto and off the vehicle if needed; Performs vehicle preventative maintenance including daily/monthly vehicle safety inspection and cleaning of vehicle; Follows all City vehicle policies and reports vehicle mechanical failure of accident/incident to supervisor; Maintains and submits vehicle records, preventative maintenance checks, garage service invoice, daily mileage/client log forms, number of passengers transported, etc., to supervisor in a timely manner; Participates in continuing training program; Collects fares for passengers; Reports to work on assigned duty schedule; Performs other reasonable duties as assigned.
Provides CPR/First Aid assistance when needed; Performs minor maintenance and cleaning of transit vehicles.

The City of Danville is taking applications for Temporary Van Drivers to operate van or mini-bus to provide transportation for Senior Citizens on HOLIDAYS AND/OR SPECIAL ACTIVITIES ONLY . The position would require the ability to assist persons on and off the vehicle if needed; have thorough knowledge of traffic rules and regulations; Education and experience equivalent to graduation from high school with some experience in operating vans/buses or related equipment.
Thorough knowledge of City/State traffic rules and regulations; Ability to provide CPR/First Aid assistance when needed; Ability to operate transportation vehicle and related equipment safely and efficiently; Ability to keep simple records and make reports; Ability to establish effective relationships with passengers and coworkers; Ability to assist disabled and non-disabled persons onto and off vehicle if needed; Knowledge and ability to perform vehicle preventative maintenance.
Education and experience equivalent to graduation from high schooland some experience in operating vans/buses or related equipment; Ability to read and write and understand warning labels and symbols.
Special License and Certificates:
Proof of valid CDL and valid Medical Examiner’s Certificate required.
