The Van Driver is responsible for providing staff and parent transportation, delivery and pick-up of program supplies and incidental transportation for children (with a parent or staff member) as directed by the Head Start Director or her designee. Maintains an awareness of child safety and takes appropriate safety precautions for children’s well-being. Demonstrate respect and consideration in all conversations and interactions. Identify and show respect for a child and family’s culture and home environment. Uses positive discipline and guidance that is consistent with Head Start standards and Catholic Charities polices when need to address challenging behaviors. Transports parents and staff to and from meetings and professional development activities. Operates vehicle while obeying all agency policies and transportation laws. Maintains security for passengers at all times, by checking to see that required restraint devices are secured prior to operation of the assigned vehicle. Delivers program supplies to Head Start program sites. Conducts a pre-trip vehicle inspection following established guidelines and reports identified problems following established procedures. Cleans vehicle windows, mirrors, and interior, and cleans the exterior of the vehicle weekly. Reports suspected mechanical problems following established procedures. Ensures that the vehicle is available for inspection by the Department of Motor Vehicles as scheduled or notified. Maintains confidentiality of all program and participant information. Completes and submits required vehicle and passenger records as scheduled and/or requested. Insures that all insurance, registration and passenger information is in the vehicle at all times. Reports all vehicle accidents immediately following the Catholic Charities Vehicle Policy Guidelines. Reports all traffic tickets received in the line of work to the immediate supervisor.

High School Diploma/GED. Current MD Drivers License with no more than three points. Must have or have the ability to become certified by Red Cross in First Aid within three months of employment. Must have knowledge of basic automotive maintenance and of regulations governing Maryland traffic laws; and the ability to read, compute at a basic level; follow oral and written directions; plan and organize work assignments; establish rapport with the public, parents, staff and children; document information; observe children for behavioral changes; practice patience and flexibility with children, parents and staff and program needs. Must be able to provide own transportation to and from the work site.
