Veteran Linguists take maximum advantage of the research tools and resources available, and know how to perform their assigned tasks smoothly and efficiently. They are the focal points for coordinating the organization of resources and information in support of mission and operational requirements. They serve as a final authority on the summaries, translations and transcripts produced. Veteran Linguists act as coaches and mentors to linguists having less experience, training and project knowledge; providing them with timely and appropriate feedback and identifying the most feasible and suitable approaches for operational training.
Veteran Linguists are expected to, but are not limited to, perform the following tasks:
Perform at final quality control level on transcripts and translations, ensuring that the final product is a faithful and accurate rendition of the original material
Provide on-line assistance to other linguists
Produce accurate and polished translations during final quality control, ensuring that the final version maintains fidelity to the contact and style of the original text.
Veteran linguists must have a minimum of ten (10) years of transcription, translation or other language-related cryptologic experience.
Must have extensive experience in language, literature, linguistics, or related humanistic fields.
The Veteran Linguist must have the advanced linguistic knowledge, diverse background, and expertise required to quality control the entire spectrum of cryptologic voice processing and graphic tasks.
They must have demonstrated superior and professional competency in their previous assignments and positions.
Basic internet research skills and an understanding of telecommunications and computer network communication fundamentals are desired. Performance at Level 3 in listening, reading and translation as defined by the Interagency Language Roundtable (ILR) is required.
Must possess or be capable of obtaining a TS/SCI with poly.
