Office of Veterinary Public Health Services promotes and protects the health of New York City residents and visitors by ensuring an environment free from animal-borne diseases, hazards and nuisances by controlling and regulating animals.

-- Conduct investigations of diseases at permitted animal holding facilities.

-- Conduct epidemiological investigations of diseases transmitted from animals to people.

-- Advise and consult with Veterinarians, and other public health officials on issues relating to veterinary public health medicine.

-- Develop and advise on legislation impacting on the relationship between animals and people.

-- Perform examinations and determine the disposition of animals involved in serious bite incidents.

-- Conduct site visits at AC&C shelters.

-- Advise staff on veterinary matters at the shelters.

-- Develop and implement policies and procedures related to animal shelters.

-- Make recommendations and assist the Director in the formulation of scope of services for AC&C contract and overall shelter operations.

-- Work collaboratively with the Director to ensure that proper communication, establish standardized processes and consistency policies are in place at AC&C shelters.

-- Identify and help to resolve any arising issues at AC&C shelters.

-- Perform other duties as required and assigned by the Director.

Minimum Qual Requirements

Qualification Requirements

1. Possession of a valid New York State license to practice veterinary medicine.

Excellent oral and written communication skills; excellent interpersonal skills; excellent data analysis skills and proficiency in Excel, MS Word, and MS Access; excellent organizational skills
