Vice President – Claims
Farm Family Casualty Insurance Company has an excellent professional opportunity available for a Vice President of Claims. This key leadership position has overall responsibility for handling all property and casualty claims in the Home Office and in the field, including all claim settlements, budgeting, training, and compliance as well as interactions with other departments.
Responsibilities include (but are not limited to) leading the continued improvement of claim handling excellence in our targeted markets, developing and strengthening relationships with our multiple line exclusive field force and assisting in the development of claim handling guidelines, standards and processes.

About the Position
The Vice President of Claims is an exempt position and reports directly to our President & CEO, Timothy Walsh. He or she will head the Casualty Claim Division, having nine direct reports and 148 total staff members – and will be an integral member of our leadership team.
The successful candidate will:
Be committed to building a world class claims team - Have a substantiated track record of consistent, excellent leadership and developing talent in people - Posses comprehensive knowledge of property & casualty claims, with solid experience in small-to-midsize commercial risks. Experience with Agribusiness risks is a big plus.
Be an effective communicator with proven ability to provide clear and concise direction
Serve as chief claim officer overseeing approximately 148 claim staff and all claims
and claim related matters from policies sold by Farm Family Companies - Provide reports and advice to executive management on claim and related matters -Support and promote corporate and claim compliance, including the proper licensing of all claim personnel and compliance with state regulations in all states served -Serve as primary claim contact for all state Market Conduct Reviews - Oversee and manage relationships with business partners, vendors and TPA's - Create and manage budget and financial matters for claim department - Oversee relationship with finance including the integrity of data with our Claim Processing Systems - Oversee claim department structure, staffing plan for continuous efficiency and effectiveness of the department.
Plan and participate in the annual claim conference - Oversee the complaint process for all claim related consumer complaints including those from Insurance Departments and others - Oversee all claim related litigation - Coordinate with legal on E&O matters involving claims - Coordinate with legal on all bad faith claims or qualified suits against the Company - Serve as a resource for cross-departmental programs and initiatives including those with the Underwriting, Marketing and Research & Development departments - Coordinate with American National Property and Casualty Company (ANPAC) on the handling of commercial business serviced by Farm Family.
Oversee the Special Investigative Unit - Develop and oversee Risk Management Services - Maintain a diary of the high exposure liability files, including all reinsurance files, and monitor and direct the claim handling of these files to ensure compliance with
company and regulatory standards - Work with directors, managers and adjusters to ensure proper reserving - Participate in audits of the liability and property files to ensure proper handling in the non - reporting files as well as, identify training needs
-Work with all supervisory personnel to monitor expenses - Remain current on insurance knowledge and changes in programs, policies, procedures and product offerings.
Participate in the development of reinsurance programs, including catastrophe
management - Participate on the IBNR Committee
- Report to our President & CEO
- Maintain good working relationships with all departments, senior management,
business partners, trade associations, agents and affiliates
Education and Experience:
- College degree strongly preferred, as well as the CPCU designation and other industry related professional designations and coursework
- Minimum of 10 years claims handling experience, including at least 5 years in a
supervisory or management role
- Obtain and maintain all required licenses
