Barclays Capital Inc. seeks a Vice President, Economist, Emerging Markets Research for its New York, NY location.

Research, analyze and interpret economic data and trends in Emerging Markets, including Argentina. Utilize econometric models and tools including Bloomberg and Reuters to analyze and forecast Argentine macroeconomic indicators including GDP growth, exchange rates, interest rates, and inflation. Based on economic and political analyses, develop forecasts to evaluate risks of investing in external and local debt issued by Argentine and provincial governments and institutions. Work with Strategists to prepare and present Emerging Markets (EM) investment recommendations to Sales and Trading teams and external clients. Periodic travel to Argentina to meet with external clients, local government representatives, and journalists, to gather information and produce research. Publish research reports for external clients and advise Trading desk on political factors and macroeconomic issues impacting market. Advise banking team on impact of economic, regulatory and political developments in Argentina.

Must have Bachelor's degree or foreign equivalent in Economics or closely related plus six (6) years of post-Baccalaureate progressive experience as an Emerging Markets Economist, Analyst, or Consultant covering Argentina. Must have demonstrated experience: Working with Latin American credit markets and Argentine sovereign debt and derivatives; Utilizing econometric software to forecast macroeconomic variables including inflation, GDP, and exchange rates; Using Bloomberg and Reuters to analyze markets in order to publish research and provide investment recommendations to clients/Traders; Working with complex liability management transactions. FINRA Series 7 and 63 certifications required within six (6) months of hire. Position requires approximately 10% of time spent travelling to Argentina. - 20 months ago - save job
