Vice President, Finance – Liberty Utilities – East

PURPOSE/ACCOUNTABILITY

Responsible for the strategic direction as well as the short term and long-term performance of the Finance Department participating in key decisions pertaining to strategic initiatives, operating model and operational execution and is a Member of the Executive Leadership Team of the company.

PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES

The Vice President oversees and directs all aspects of the Finance Department, which includes Accounting, Accounts Receivable, Accounts Payable, Purchasing, Payroll Administration and IT Management. The successful incumbent will be responsible for all company financial and tax matters, monitoring and analyzing monthly operating results against budget, oversight of cost control and forecasting, annual financial planning, delivering quarterly and ad hoc financial reports, directing and managing the Company's general accounting practices, tax policy and compliance, short and long term budget processes, development of the annual corporate operating plan, capital budget and internal and external financial reporting. This position will ensure accounting systems, including cost, general and property accounting, accounts payable and payroll, comply with all general accounting principles and practices.

Additional responsibilities:
Oversees the planning, development and implementation of policies and processes related to the design and administration of the Company's accounting, tax, budgetary, financial reporting, short term financial plan and capital budget and internal control systems.

Monitor and steer the development of divisional operating plans and execution and of the Finance function including internal/external financial reporting, treasury and cash management, development execution of long term funding strategy, execution of investment strategy, and compliance with all audits.

Advise Senior Management as to Company-wide strategic direction in policy and planning for short and long term accounting, tax and budget issues and ensure complete integration with finance and operations groups in support of the attainment of corporate objectives.

Provide counsel and guidance to all management levels throughout the organization to ensure the optimum utilization and compliance with general accounting principles, practices and controls.

Work closely in strategic planning to determine the short-term financial plan and operational objectives are aligned with corporate strategies.

Oversee development of financial analysis models to assist with the decision-making process regarding research, initiation and assessment of all operations projects and their impact on corporate earnings.

Responsible for budget processes, encompassing planning, forecasting, development and allocation, as well as controls, reporting and analysis.

Oversee the policies required to meet external and internal reporting requirements of the company while ensuring compliance with the rules and regulations of the Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC), generally accepted accounting principles and utility and regulatory regulations.

Coordination of all external auditor activities and the interface with the Audit Committee on all financial reporting and control issues.

Align and integrate all financial and operations functions in order to ensure tight fiscal controls and support the achievement of the Company's tactical and strategic objectives.

Responsible for the development of monthly financial presentations to the Leadership Team and coordination of all presentations made at those meetings.

Establish the mission and goals for Finance, ensure that projects undertaken by the department support, and foster organizational direction and goals strategy.

Promote a culture of high performance and continuous improvement that values learning and a commitment to quality.

Mentor and develop staff using a supportive and collaborative approach: assign accountabilities; set objectives; establish priorities; and monitor and evaluate results.

QUALIFICATIONS

Bachelor's Degree in Accounting, Finance or Business Administration or related discipline required. MBA and/or CPA preferred.

Minimum of fifteen (15) years of senior level work experience with utility regulatory accounting, Generally Accepted Accounting Principles, .detailed financial planning, cost accounting, auditing, management reporting and analysis, tax, budgetary and payroll required. Experience in shared service organization preferred.

Experience working with all levels of an organization including executive and senior management and directing/managing direct reports and staff required.

Excellent business judgment, business acumen and possess the drive to continuously improve performance required.

Knowledge of short and long terms budgeting, forecasting and federal and state financial regulations required.

Exceptional customer focus, communication, change management and relationship building skills.

Ability to drive continuous improvement as a process, consciously sponsor innovation and change (i.e. Lean six sigma or similar process experience).

Demonstrated strong business acumen combined with ability to communicate with and influencing senior executives and lines of business.

Collaborative and engaging leader who partners well with others and is results driven.

Strong team orientation and ability to empower and develop staff while fostering an inclusive environment where all employees feel valued and are recognized for their contributions.

Proven track record of successful employee leadership required.

Highly energetic and results-driven, with a strong work ethic and commitment to excellence.

Strong written, oral communication, presentation and facilitation skills required.

Proficiency with Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint & Access) required.

Flexible with traveling within US & Canada.
