The A&R Department operates as the primary source of talent scouting and record making within Atlantic Records. It is A&R that allows us to locate and sign new talent and continue making records for currently signed artists.
High Level Job Description :
To sign and break new artists as well as maintain and elevate the success of current artists on the Atlantic Records roster by making records that are a large success both artistically and commercially.
Detailed Job Description/ Responsibilities :
Liaison between Atlantic Records and the musicians, producers, songwriters, management, and attorney network.
Discovering new artist, producer and song writer talent
Introducing hit songs and tracks to the entire urban roster of artists while being directly accountable for the success of artists VP signs or is assigned to oversee.
Staying on top of new trends, artists, producers, songwriters, and talent within the music industry by attending showcases, networking, and maintaining relationships with professionals in the business, specifically within urban music.
Make albums for Atlantic Records that are successful while keeping within budgets set for project.
Negotiate costs with producers, songwriters, attorneys and studios.
Guiding the recording and marketing process of an album while maintaining the artist’s vision and intention of the music.
Preserving the artist’s ideas and integrity throughout the project.
Required Competencies/Skills :
Have a “good ear” for music and know what makes hit records.
Able to sift through demos and give productive feedback on new music.
Must be able to network socially and professionally within the industry.
Special Requirements/Preferences :
Bachelors Degree (preferred, but not required)
Must of an in depth knowledge of the recording process and music.
Microsoft Office Suite (Outlook, Word, Excel, Power Point).
Education Required :
7+ years experience in the Music Industry, specifically A&R.
Has been responsible for the commercial success of multiple albums
