The Vice President of Media & Talent has a 360-degree overview of SPT’s key initiatives, and develops strategic public relations campaigns that target consumer and target media and clients to achieve overall business goals. These strategies identify and create opportunities to promote content, supplement efforts and reach set goals. The role is responsible for worldwide consumer media relations, press related events and talent relations. This position interfaces with the head of corporate communications on a regular basis.
30% 1. Lead media and talent relations team in strategizing, defining, implementing and maintaining all aspects of high quality consumer & trade television and digital media campaigns and events across several lines of business, including: U.S. production; international distribution; U.S. distribution; and international and U.S. linear and digital networks.
Develop and maintain key press relationships; secure media placement that realizes company objectives.
Troubleshoot and problem solve on media relations/talent issues that may arise across different lines of business.
Oversee and manage communication to international field and distribution teams to help maximize worldwide series sales and launches.
Shape strategies, offer guidance and help execute launch campaigns for international networks’ original series launches.
Create efficiencies by identifying, procuring and sharing best practice information across regions and/or businesses.
Identify opportunities to maximize efforts across divisions (junkets, set visits, mondo shoots, etc).
20% 2. Manage public relations work flow across several lines of business, including U.S. production, international distribution, U.S. distribution, international and U.S. networks.
Help staff prioritize assignments.
Help manage workflow and workload.
Supplement efforts with PR agencies and consultants, when necessary.
15% 3. Provide counsel to senior executives from across divisions (programming, production, distribution, international networks, marketing,) in the origination and development of communication plans and brand defining initiatives.
Provide strategic counsel to Chief Marketing Officer on major public relations initiatives.
Work closely with corporate communications.
Work particularly closely with marketing on initiatives that will help amplify studio’s efforts.
15% 4. Work to elevate executive visibility and raise the studio’s profile amongst tastemakers in the television and filmmaking communities.
10% 5. Manage media relations budgets for series, international, U.S. and international networks.
10% 6. Manage, identify and develop key materials, including: press materials; press releases; sales materials; press kits; talking points for senior executives, producers and talent. Additionally, help identify opportunities to gather additional assets (i.e. photos, etc).
Ten plus years of public relations experience in the entertainment industry, with particular emphasis in global television.
Significant experience reporting to key studio executives.
Excellent media and industry relationships.
Knowledge of the entertainment community and NY, LA & regional media.
Outstanding written and verbal communications skills and visible success as one of the spokespeople for the company.
Demonstrated success in proactively managing crisis communications with a steady hand.
Outstanding achievement in elevating exposure for series.
Outstanding verbal and written communications acuity, as well as intellectual curiosity.
Business gravitas that would allow candidate to be a strong lieutenant able to manage affairs in a timely and effective fashion and be able to earn the trust of studio executives.
Ability to understand and leverage the cultural zeitgeist and pop culture vernacular to the studio’s advantage.
Driven toward success within a team environment.
Ability to work in a global business with a flexible schedule to adapt to regional time zones.
