We are seeking a vice president to own and refine the strategies and operations that support our executive directors towards ending educational inequity for students in low income communities. The vice president, working closely with the chief operating officer, will identify and set the strategic direction on key initiatives to increase the impact of our executive directors and regions, will design and develop cross-regional initiatives, and will be the liaison for our national functional teams in their work supporting our regions. In addition, s/he will oversee the operations and systems that support our executive directors, identifying and solving the operational challenges of a rapidly growing organization that has outgrown many of its previous operations. Finally, the vice president will manage a team to support this work, including the director, operations, manager, strategy and operations and senior associate, operations.

Regional Operations Team

Teach For America partners with 46 urban and rural communities and counting. Each region has its own unique challenges and opportunities. Our team works with districts, community members, alumni, and other supporters to set the vision and direction for TFA in each region, in order to help that community expand educational opportunity. On Regional Operations, we're constantly challenging one another to push our team - and all of our regions - to be their best.



Set the vision and direction for the strategy and operations team and create a culture of excellence

Set the strategic direction for and design and develop cross-regional initiatives to increase the impact of our executive directors and regions. Examples include regional visioning and strategic planning and regional budgeting (alongside core team).

Lead Regional Operations work with Teach For America's national functional teams. This includes:

Ensure national functional support moves regions forward towards their goals and long term impact.

Hold the "big picture" view in order to prioritize among national functional initiatives and integrate work across functions as appropriate

Ensure regions' perspectives drive the development of national functional support.

Work closely with the chief operating officer and senior vice president to develop scope and sequence for team calls highlighting functional topics that will accelerate our progress against our regional priorities and execute those conversations

Identify operations we have outgrown, oversee the development of new systems that preserve our spirit of innovation and are scalable as we continue to grow, and oversee the operations and systems that support our executive directors and the regional operations team

Attract, hire, develop, and manage the strategy and operations team

Guide organizational direction given the unique position of the regional operations team to integrate all functions and overall work of every region

Example: Co-lead Growth Strategy Working Group with GDP partner; key voice on headcount coordination and dissemination, annual planning initiatives, and cadence of organizational initiatives that affect regions

Candidate Profile and Experience Prerequisites

Superb strategic thinker, including operations components

Demonstrates ability to work across teams and with senior leaders in the organization to get things done

Understands the perspectives of regions and the needs of executive directors and their regions

Operates with a high level of personal responsibility

Demonstrates sound judgment

Gets results by managing through others and across multiple layers of an organization.

Bachelor's degree required

Previous experience as an executive director or on a regional team strongly preferred

Minimum 7+ years professional work experience and prefer 5+ years of management experience


Some travel is required (25%-40%)
