The Dairy Science Department is seeking multiple Visiting Faculty to help provide instruction in the first year of the new Master of Professional Studies in Dairy Products Technology graduate program. This innovative one-year graduate degree program is the result of an initiative to retrain individuals with critical thinking skills and leadership for management track positions in the dairy foods industry. Courses to be covered by multiple instructors include dairy chemistry, dairy microbiology, dairy industry issues and practices, and/or dairy unit operations. Candidates with experience and qualifications in one or more of these areas and have an interest in working with an outstanding cohort of students to build an innovative new program are encouraged to apply.
Ideal candidates for the Visiting Faculty appointment include individuals who are looking for paid sabbatical opportunities or additional teaching experience. Individuals who have a leave of absence from industry positions are also highly encouraged to apply. Visiting Faculty will also be given an opportunity to work on a project of their choosing, such as a sabbatical project using our extensive state-of-the-art facility and interact with industry partners from around the world. However, the primary responsibilities of the Visiting Faculty in Dairy Science will be instruction of courses in the new Master of Professional Studies in Dairy Products Technology self-support program. Visiting Faculty appointments are either full-time or part-time temporary positions, for up to a maximum of one academic year, and are limited to individuals from outside the appointing campus who are recognized in their field and whose employment in the CSU would benefit the mission of the University.
Minimum Qualifications (Staff Only)
Required Qualifications / Specialized Skills
A Ph. D. degree in a field related to dairy foods or Food Science with appropriate qualifications to teach in the MPS DPT program.
This position is open only to applicants who are not employed at Cal Poly, San Luis Obispo.
Candidates must possess a national or international reputation and recognition in their field such that their employment in the CSU will benefit the mission of the University. Faculty from other institutions on sabbatical are encouraged to apply.
Preferred Qualifications / Skills
Knowledge of the U.S. dairy foods industry.
Special Conditions (Staff)
Visiting Faculty positions are open only to external applicants. Appointments may be made for up to one year maximum and are non-renewable. Appointees to the Visiting Faculty classification are not eligible to serve a probationary period, gain tenure, or earn an ongoing entitlement.
The person holding this position is considered a 'mandated reporter' under the California Child Abuse and Neglect Reporting Act and is required to comply with the requirements set forth in CSU Executive Order 1083 as a condition of employment.
