Description of Position

Visiting Instructor/Visiting Assistant Professor positions in the Department of Workforce Education and Development with specialization in education, training, and development.

The Department of Workforce Education and Development has delivered an on-site Baccalaureate Degree program with a major in Workforce Education and Development since 1973. The program is currently offered on 13 military bases and two college campuses in eight states as follows: Bangor NSB, WA; Charleston AFB, SC; NAS Oceana, VA; Great Lakes NTC, IL; Groton NSB, CT; Jacksonville NAS, FL; Joint Base Lewis-McChord AFB, WA; McGuire AFB, NJ; Mayport NS, FL; NAS Pensacola, FL: San Diego NAS, CA; San Diego NAVST,CA; Scott AFB, IL; Springfield, IL and Riverside, CA. On all matters pertaining to the operation of the program, Visiting Instructors/Visiting Assistant Professors are accountable to the Department of Workforce Education and Development and to the College of Education and Human Services.

Responsibilities of the Position

Visiting Instructor/Visiting Assistant Professor teaching in the Baccalaureate Degree program are responsible for teaching regular courses as assigned by the Department Chairperson. These courses are WED 462 - Instructional Methods and Materials; WED 463 - Assessment of Learner Performance; WED 466 - Foundations of Work Education; WED 469 - Training Systems Management and WED 486 - Adult Learning. Courses are a blend of online, electronic or face to face instruction and meet for four weekends during a regular academic trimester (three weekends of classroom instruction; one weekend using technology-enhanced distance learning activities). THE INTENT OF THIS ANNOUNCEMENT IS TO IDENTIFY A POOL OF ADJUNCT FACULTY WHO LIVE IN CLOSE PROXIMITY TO ONE OF THE 15 DELIVERY SITES LISTED ABOVE AND ARE QUALIFIED TO DELIVER WED COURSES AS LISTED.

Requirements of Candidates

  • Master's degree required (doctorate preferred), from a regionally accredited institution, in one of the following area: workforce education, training and development, adult education, human resources, or a related field.
  • A minimum of three years of documented experience teaching at the postsecondary level.
  • Experience in applying workforce education principles in business and industry.
  • Graduate-level course work in one or more of the following areas: adult learning theory, instructional methodology, curriculum development, training evaluation, training systems management, and foundations of workforce education.
  • Various course offerings throughout the year require a pool of applicants with a wide range of qualifications (see items above 1-4). Preference will be given to applicants with a background in the specific course content of the available assignment.
  • Applicants may be subject to background check via RAPIDGate for military site access.
  • Appointment and Salary

    Qualifications of candidate will determine faculty rank and salary. These are term, non-tenure-accruing positions subject to reappointment each semester. After initial screening of applications, if selected and approved as a finalist, candidates will be expected to interview with an off-campus faculty member at the nearest location where the program is offered. The maximum allowed travel reimbursement is $500.
