This position is located in Medical Media Service, a department that provides audiovisual, graphic, and photographic services in support of medical documentation, public affairs, training programs for staff, and patient education. The incumbent works primarily in the graphic section but also supports, as required, the audiovisual and photography sections and is instrumental in the development, production, and delivery of media products required for the VA Gulf Coast Veterans Health Care System.
As a Visual Information Specialist, the incumbent provides advice and direction to staff requesting design services for visual information materials intended to communicate and promote VA programs, research, and projects. Meets with clients during the developmental stages of visual information projects to help define objectives, recommend solutions, and determine appropriate method for contemplating the project. Plans visual projects that interpret subject matter content provided by the customer.
Uses a combination of word processing software, photo editing software, and page layout software to design and create products for manuals, pamphlets, handbooks, newsletters, slide presentations, flyers, web pages, CD-ROMS, video productions, and other formats as required. Prepares and installs the visual graphic elements of 2D and 3D displays, utilizing various commercial art techniques, materials and tools to complete fabrication. Operates 35mm and digital still cameras, digital video cameras, and related equipment. Ensures patient consent has been obtained for medical photography and video. Performs other audiovisual duties as needed.
Work Schedule: Monday-Friday, 8:00 am to 4:30 pm (Tour of duty may be adjusted to meet department needs.)

Qualifications & Evaluations
Applicants may substitute education for the experience required for the GS-09 level (i.e. 2 full years of progressively higher level graduate education leading to such a degree in the major study of commercial art, fine arts, art history, industrial design, architecture, drafting, interior design, photography, visual communication, or other fields related to the position.)
KSA 1 - Experience in using multimedia/graphic design software such as Photoshop, Illustrator, InDesign, etc.
KSA 2 - Knowledge of a variety of methods, techniques, and materials used in the design, production, and reproduction of visual products to plan the technical details of, or produce, aesthetically composed visual products in a timely manner for flyers, posters, booklets, web pages, etc.
KSA 3 - Skill in operating digital still cameras and video cameras.
KSA 4 - Skill in collaborating with subject matter experts, designers, and contractors to plan for fabrication of visual projects.
