The successful candidate will join a collaborative team in creating and distributing branded promotional multimedia content for the Virginia Tech website and affiliated pages. The Web Video Producer/Journalist will be responsible for investigating and identifying the best story ideas about Virginia Tech and its various constituencies that support the university's strategic initiatives and then producing branded video and multimedia stories for web distribution. Responsibilities include conceiving, researching, developing, writing, producing, conducting interviews for, directing, photographing, editing and posting quality multimedia web programming.
Master's degree in communications, videography, media production or related field or a bachelor's degree with training and/or experience that equates to an advanced degree; previous experience in producing and planning professional-level self-initiated multimedia programming for the web; experience in scriptwriting, producing, directing, interviewing, videography, computer graphics, and computer video editing for the production of high-quality objective-oriented programs; experience using current video production equipment (such as cameras, digital editing systems, lighting instruments, and sound recording equipment); experience with audio, video, photo editing and publishing software; experience creating and organizing web content and graphics; demonstrated understanding of web development tools and best practices; comprehensive knowledge of multimedia principles, concepts, and techniques; demonstrated knowledge of digital image manipulation, and standard HTML language; ability to analyze communications needs and design programming to meet needs; demonstrated ability to find and produce good stories in multimedia; demonstrated ability to learn new technologies and knowledge of computers and multimedia software; thorough understanding of the internet and the web and its capabilities; familiarity with various new media software and social media outlets; excellent communication, writing, interpersonal, and organizational skills; demonstrated ability to work independently and develop suitable solutions within established time frame; ability to handle multiple projects and deadlines; demonstrated ability to work in teams, meet deadlines, solve production problems, and effectively manage all aspects of assigned projects.
Extensive working knowledge of Mac-based computers and editing programs such as Final Cut; working knowledge of graphics software, Flash, Photoshop, content management systems, and search engine optimization practices; experience in higher education, broadcasting, public relations, advertising, or marketing; experience in a web-based setting.
