TurboFab, a facility of Solar Turbines, specializes in the fabrication of generator and turbine platforms, as well as pipe spooling, process skid and turbine base assembly, painting, testing, electrical assembly, and instrumentation.

TurboFab is a fully-integrated, wholly-owned fabrication and machining facility located just east of Houston along the Carpenter's Bayou Barge Canal in Channelview, Texas. TurboFab fabricates many products for both Solar Turbines and Caterpillar, in taking great advantage of its 1200 feet of waterfront access and 50-acre state-of-the-art facility. Some of the products presently produced by TurboFab include: Turbine package bases for all Solar product lines, Large single lift module systems - weighing up to 1000 tons each, Skid-mounted fuel treatment systems, Process equipment skids, Pipe valve skids and Caterpillar power generation package containers.

We currently have a career opportunity for a Structural Welder at our TurboFab facility in Channelview, Texas.

POSITION OBJECTIVE :

Using TurboFab welding procedures, this position must be capable of performing to the welding requirements specified for acceptable welds. Must be proficient in the welding of structural materials of all sizes within protected and open areas. This position is for structural welders that can perform in any welding processes set up here at TurboFab, as well as new processes that may be required in the future.

NATURE AND SCOPE :

The use of all available welding processes such as shielded metal arc, gas metal arc, flux cored arc and stud welding. Perform setup incidental for welding of structural material. Must perform arc gouging as required. Must perform tack welding functions as required. Weld all gauges and thicknesses of materials where welded area may be subject to extreme stress and where care must be taken to prevent leaks and cracks. Weld flat, vertical or overhead welds in difficult positions and areas of difficult access. Preheat materials as may be necessary in order to minimize quality problems. Perform surface preparations of materials such as cleaning, sanding, grinding and some assembly of parts. Welds shall be welded to Customer Specifications and ANSI/AWS D1.1 Code unless otherwise specified.

PRINCIPAL ACCOUNTABILITIES:

  • Comply with all of TurboFab’s Environmental, Health and Safety Programs, Regulations and Guidelines.
  • Must keep all areas clean and orderly; and comply with TurboFab’s housekeeping procedures.
  • Check own work for conformance to welding procedure and specifications.
  • Use all necessary equipment, tools and materials required to perform assigned work.
  • Ensure that the welding procedures have been followed and quality has not been compromised.
  • Clean welds including the cutting and repairing of unacceptable welds.
  • Qualified to fully understand and adjust welding machine settings as required by welding procedure.
  • Train other less experienced welders, as needed.
  • Must exceed production and quality standards and requirements.
  • KNOWLEDGE:

    · This position is for well experience employees with two or more years of experience and requires minimal supervision.
    · Qualified to weld any and all process required here at TurboFab, included by not limited to, 1” plate – Flux Core (FCAW) P1-F13G,
    3/8” Flux Core – Stainless (FCAW) TFSP8-P8FA, SFC-6GR–105 (TKY), and Military plus any other newly established procedures, as per AWS
    · Pass and maintain all required welding qualification tests.
