Expectations of the FFL include (but are not limited to) the following:
  • Provide support, advocacy, and mediation, as needed, to the student in relation to the practicum;
  • Work collaboratively with the Field Instructor and Agency Supervisor regarding selection of assignments for students;
  • Provide the Field Instructor with necessary information regarding students;
  • Provide Field Instructors and students with all necessary forms and information regarding the program and procedures;
  • Meet at least three times per academic year with each Field Instructor and student;
  • Meet additionally with the Field Instructor and/or student if need arises;
  • Provide and/or attend orientation sessions and seminars for Field Instructors;
  • Assign a student grade (Pass/Fail) following collaboration with the Field Instructor;
  • Function as Instructor for the Field Seminar course that students take concurrent with field practicum;
  • Submit all student-related field documentation (learning contract(s), semester-end evaluation forms) to the Director of Field Education at the end of each semester;
  • Write summary statements of each student’s placement information, learning contract, assignments, and performance at the end of each semester (to be submitted to the student, academic advisor, Director of Field Education, and BSW Director);
  • Assess the overall field practicum experience provided by the agency by completing an evaluation of the practicum site at the end of the academic year; and,
  • The Faculty Field Liaison will meet on site with each Field Instructor and student three times per academic year to review the student’s progress towards achieving learning objectives and assignments identified in the learning contract. The Faculty Field Liaison will supplement site visits with at least one phone contact each semester.

  • Understand the current Council on Social Work Education (CSWE) Core Competencies and accompanying practice behaviors;
  • Keep the Social Work Field Education office informed of any problem situations in the field which may interfere with the student’s successful completion of field education
  • Collect, read, give feedback, and submit to the Field Office a completed learning agreement and evaluation for each student, every semester
  • Collect, read and provide feedback on student Process Recordings
  • Attend FFL Orientation and meetings throughout the academic year
  • Notify the Field Office immediately regarding contact or personnel changes at placement sites

Requirements:
  • Licensure as a master’s social worker
  • Driver’s license, car and the ability to travel
  • Exceptional interpersonal, group and conflict resolution skills
  • Strong oral and written communication skills. (Must be comfortable working with email communication)
  • Easily accessible and responsive to students, Field Instructors and agency partners
  • Flexible schedule that will allows for multiple meetings per student as needed
  • Prior clinical supervisory and/or management experience in agency-based settings
  • Excellent organizational and time-management skills
