The Director of Social Work Field Education is responsible for cultivating relationships with social work agencies throughout the greater Boston area in order to foster field placement opportunities for Wheelock College’s Bachelors and Masters level Social Work students. The Field Director is responsible for maintaining current placements that are in line with the mission of the college, ‘to improve the lives of children and families,’ as well as to carry out the focus of the Social Work Program, Human Rights and Social Justice
Tasks Include but are not limited to the following:
*Meet with Associate Dean once per week for supervision and student updates.
*Work closely with the Assistant Director of Field Education to orient, support and train Faculty Field Liaisons. Provide support to Faculty Field Liaisons and ensure they have a strong understanding of the field curriculum. Educate and train Faculty Field Liaisons about teaching field seminar and the importance of being able to support the field department as the signature pedagogy.
*Work with placement sites to ensure that agencies meet the Council on Social Work Education requirements and that the organization’s mission and philosophy are consistent with the mission and purpose of Wheelock’s social work program.
*Provide support to students, Field Instructors or Faculty Field Liaisons that are experiencing challenges related to field placement.
*Assume a caseload of Bachelors and Masters level students to facilitate practicum placement and support.
*Work closely with Assistant Director of Field on practicum handbook, field materials, site agreements, and student insurance information.
*Work with Assistant Director of Field, BSW & MSW department chairs to orient and prepare social work students to enter the field.
*Provide on-going training to Field Instructors in addition to the initial orientation.
The ideal candidate will possess a strong commitment to the field of social work, be mindful and committed to a strengths based practice, be able to mulit-task, work independently and respect differences. Social Work Field Director will have strong written, verbal and communication skills. They will be extremely organized and have the ability to build excellent rapport with others and respond to agencies in a timely fashion.
This is a 35 hour a week, temporary three month position, as well as half-time for the two weeks prior and two weeks after the three months. An MSW with several years of supervisory experience is required. Experience in higher education is a plus.
