The President’s Office seeks a professional with excellent communication, research, organizational and volunteer management skills to support the work of the Board of Trustees and the President. The Manager of Board Relations will provide research, logistical, and administrative assistance to the Board chair and to selected Board committees, meetings, and events. Working with the Corporate Secretary, the Manager facilitates and maintains strong and active communications within the Board and with the Chair of the Board and relevant constituents, enabling strong preparation for Board and committee meetings and, when appropriate, referring Trustee issues to other resources within the College. The Manager’s duties will include activities such as distributing agendas for Executive Committee and Committee on Trustee meetings, giving notice of and taking minutes for selected Board meetings, handling logistics and follow-up for Trustee meetings and other events, and collaborating with the campus as needed to further the mission of the College. He/she will maintain accurate Board records, ensuring that Trustee actions are accurately described, fully documented, and implemented. Additional responsibilities include: working with the Corporate Secretary to organize the production of all board manuals and materials and to coordinate annual Board retreats and future new Trustee orientations. The Manager will bring a strong knowledge of higher education and board relations, understand the importance of adherence to the By-laws and traditions of the College, and maintain absolute confidentiality and professionalism in all matters. The Manager of Trustee and Corporation Relations reports to the President. The position is part-time (up to 20 hours per week).
Minimum B.A. degree with board or related administrative experiences in higher education or related areas. Core competencies include: understanding the administrative and governance structure of a college or university and the legal requirements governing board actions; excellent interpersonal skills and the ability to work collaboratively with volunteers and diverse campus constituents; exceptional oral and written communication skills; strong problem-solving skills and attention to detail; and a willingness to handle relevant assignments large and small. A successful candidate will bring knowledge and experiences that demonstrate the emotional intelligence and initiative needed to work successfully at the Board level, as well as the capacity to work with humor and grace in a dynamic, fast-paced, small college environment.
