Job Description

The systems administration encompasses network and server administration. The Systems Administrator’s responsibilities include: implementation of baseline changes and respond to change requests; perform technical ev aluations, analysis, and troubleshooting for all supported servers; build servers by providing technical configuration, setup, installation services, hardware and coordination of application projects; and operate and maintain servers.

Responsible for Windows servers and the operating systems software and its successful integration with the hardware and applications software of the major computing systems across the organization. Responsible for installation and maintenance of the Windows-based CWE operating configurations on all organization Windows servers and desktops and also serve as technical referent on engineering review boards considering all additions to or changes to the operating environment. Install and maintain the Windows-based CWE operating configurations on all organization NT servers and desktops. Troubleshoot problems that may involve applications and the network. Provide technical support to applications and utility developers on requirements for integration into the operating environment. Provide guidance and technical assistance as needed. Maintain and update documentation on the operating systems' configuration. Manage software life cycles. Participate in review boards for all changes or additions to the standard CWE configuration within the organization. Participate in various design reviews.


o Execute tasks in the following areas: change request, trouble ticket, routine operation and maintenance, and server build

o Change Request

o Implement baseline changes under tech lead oversight

o Respond to assigned change requests that are sub mitted by “internal” and “external” customers

o Support customer in the development of a dedicated server build report as well as an internal build report

o Create and/or update the Asset Management record—responsible for integrity of asset management record

o Ensure build report ( procedure) is feasible, clear, and concise

o Trouble Ticket

o Perform technical ev aluations, analysis, and troubleshooting for all “supported” servers in response to Help Desk Tickets—which includes but not limited the following activities: Server failures and full system outage

o Operation and Maintenance

o Perform server checklist

o Maintain server rooms

o Restore file and data information

o Perform operating system software updates/upgrades

o Create request for service support ( SRS or other tool) from internal/external service providers

o Monitor/support tape backup

o Coordinate server installation

o Transition servers

o Assess server loads and work with tech lead on developing tuning recommendations

o Request hardware replacements

o Sub mit Build Reports for routine deliveries

o Build servers: Provide technical configuration, setup, installation services, hardware and coordination for application projects

o Provide remote access to servers

o Establish server baseline

o Assist in server maintenance and special projects

o Understand and implement established technical and workflow procedures

Required Skills

Technology requirements include some combination of the following skills:

o Windows XP Server 2003, 2008

o Building and imaging of servers and workstations

o Windows administration experience - basic configurations, troubleshooting, building out the servers, cabling the servers, and setting up the servers

o Experience with VMWare

o Experience with firewall devices

o Experience with Storage Area Networks ( SAN) administration

o Experience with backup administration

o Experience with shell scripting

o An understanding of network security principles
