A successful Connecticut based apparel company has an immediate opening for a designer. This individual will be responsible for assisting the Design Director with the designing and development of woven styles for the women’s and girl’s line.

Key responsibilities:
  • Responsible for creating original and innovative designs each season in conjunction with the Design Director that are on concept, brand appropriate and trend right
  • Create and present key trends boards of fabric and silhouette direction to Design Director and Merchandising Team ensuring that all recommendations cover line plan and business needs
  • Prepare and present concepts via sketches, fabrics, colors and trims for selection to Design Director
  • Assist in creating and updating concept boards, design boards
  • Attend all proto and regular fittings and make any changes needed
  • Play a key role in executing initial development for each season through creation of original artwork and layouts under the Design Director and Print Designer
  • Work with team to develop new fabrications, silhouettes, embellishment and embroidery
  • Work closely with cross functional teams – Product Development, Merchandising, Production and Tech to ensure information flow is accurate throughout the development process
  • Create detailed flats for presentation and tech packs
  • Prepare design packages in Blue Cherry Web pdm system
  • Assist in all aspects of daily follow-up with external and internal partners
  • Participate in group meetings, fabric shows and trend shopping

  • 5-6 years of experience working as an associate designer
  • Experience in denim, children’s and/or swim a plus

  • Excellent creativity, a high taste level and a strong understanding of the Vineyard Vines aesthetic
  • Innate knowledge of fashion and trends with the ability to focus into the new direction each season
  • Knowledge of fabric and trim sourcing with strong relationships and resources
  • Computer skills: Excellent Photoshop and Illustrator skills, Microsoft Excel, a web pdm type program
  • Excellent communication and presentation skills
  • Strong time management skills and ability to thrive in a face paced environment; excellent delegation skills
  • Good interpersonal skills and ability to work with a team
  • Upbeat, positive attitude

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Fashion Design
