We are seeking a college student to join the team at our ethanol plant in Aurora, South Dakota.

This is an on-going Work-Study Lab Tech position lasting one year or more. Students work 20-25 hours per week during the fall/spring semesters while attending school and 40 hours per week during the summer. Candidate must live in the vicinity of the ethanol plant (Aurora, SD).

This position reports to the QA/QC Manager and will be exposed to the quality assurance/quality control (QA/QC) program for the ethanol plant to ensure maximum production quantity and quality.

Assists in carrying out the plant QA/QC program.

Draws and processes samples at various points in the process, conducting QA/QC tests as required.

Helps to monitor use and inventories of laboratory chemicals and supplies.

Prepares reports and analyzes data within the process of the facility.

Maintains safety, health and environmental policies and procedures.

Participates in the safety program for the QA/QC laboratory.

Assists to coordinates activities with other departments.Communicates directly with QA/QC Manager to ensure effective participation by the process operators in the implementation of QA/QC policies and procedures.

Participates to implement programs and procedures required to ensure laboratory and plant cleanliness.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly exposed to work near moving mechanical parts.


High school diploma or GED required.

Must be pursuing a 2 year Associate’s degree in Biotechnology, or a related science field or a Bachelor’s degree in Biology, Biochemistry, Chemistry, Food Science or Microbiology from an accredited college, university, or technical college.

Must have a GPA of 3.0 or higher.

Experience with automated laboratory equipment is preferred.

To perform this job successfully, an individual must have expertise and proficiency with basic office computer software, e.g., Word, Excel, Access, Power Point, and email.

Must have the ability to work effectively with computerized laboratory equipment.

Must have strong oral and written communication skills.
