This position is located in the U.S. Department of Education, Federal Student Aid (FSA), Communications and Outreach Group, Communications and Information Resources Division (CIRD). CIRD ensures consistency in communications, and compiles, tracks and reports relevant enterprise and industry performance metrics. In addition, this area is responsible for developing and implementing strategies to effectively disseminate information to various public and stakeholder groups through the media, establish intergovernmental channels and proactive campaigns.

- Conducts interviews with FSA employees and subject matter experts to gain further knowledge about these topics for inclusion in FSA publications.
- Provides copy for all internal communications tools, including newsletters, e-mails, the FSA intranet site, and plasma screens.
- Responsible for the composition, editing and publishing of Federal Student Aid (FSA) internal communication publications, including weekly, monthly, and quarterly newsletters.
- Reviews external communications for FSA customers, including website copy, student publications, and press releases.
- Ensures all FSA communications are clear, consistent, and accurate; convey appropriate messages; and comply with the FSA’s style guide.
Two years of graduate education. OR
A master's degree or equivalent degree. OR
All qualified candidates must have one year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-7 level in the Federal Service. Examples of such experience may include:
examining brochures and press releases produced by operating components before these materials to the public to advertise special events; reviewing material for clarity and for consistency with the agency's policies and style requirements; writing internal newsletters for employees and reports to consolidate submissions from various components (all of these materials are factual reports on the operating programs of the organization); and using approved published concepts, practices, standards and technologies for the media used.
Combination of education and experience.
Three academic years of graduate education. OR
All qualified candidates must have one year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-9 level in the Federal Service. Examples of such experience may include:
writing and editing for electronic media and audiences; coordinating the work of designers and technicians in developing effective, accessible formats, as well as, illustrations and tabular material to augment the written message; preparing a bulletin or similar document, which involve planning future topics and designing individual issues, as well as, reviewing and selecting individual articles; and monitoring printing. OR
Combination of education and experience.
