Full job description

Job Summary
Create, modify, and repair the tooling necessary for creation of sand cast iron castings. Prepare new patterns and existing tooling equipment for production areas by mounting and rigging patterns and core boxes. Ready existing tooling for production by repairing, upgrading, or other preparation as needed, working from blueprints and/or instructions. Set up and operate manual shop machines and hand tools and use precision measuring tools to complete these tasks.

Responsibilities

  • Perform precision cutting, forming, and shaping of wood, plastic, or metals to build, revise and/or repair foundry pattern equipment.
  • Mount, gate, and rig patterns and core boxes precisely and with a high level of workmanship.
  • Perform hand work on pattern equipment such as sanding, patching, and painting.
  • Ability to set up, adjust, and safely operate a variety of woodworking and metalworking machines and power tools such as saws, planers, sanders, mills, lathes, drill presses, etc.
  • Ability to use precision measuring and layout equipment such as calipers, micrometers, dividers, height gauges, shrink rules, etc.
  • Familiarity with gating, risering, shrink factors, and general foundry methods and processes.
  • Ability to review and interpret blueprints and/or 3D models of parts to be cast.
  • Ensure that all work is completed accurately and in a timely manner.
  • Maintain a safe and clean work area and assist with general housekeeping in the pattern shop.
  • Performs other job-related tasks as assigned by Pattern Shop Manager.
  • Responsible to act in accordance with all DFI policies and procedures.

Skills

  • Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, procedure manuals and blueprints in English. Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals. Ability to respond appropriately to inquiries or complaints. Ability to apply common sense and respond to instructions, both written and oral. Ability to comprehend problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions. Must be self-disciplined and able to multi-task. Must be dependable, responsible, detailed-oriented and have strong written and verbal communication skills. Must be flexible for schedule changes and some weekend availability.

Job Type: Full-time

Pay: $30.00 - $35.00 per hour

Expected hours: 40 per week
