I joined Indeed on a whim, not knowing much about the company since it wasn’t established in Europe or the Netherlands then. A former colleague who had joined Indeed reached out to me about an opportunity for Dutch speakers, and here I am. Previously, I worked in the insurance industry, which had a rigid hierarchical structure where upward feedback wasn’t always appreciated.
At Indeed, I’ve found a different environment that allows you to develop yourself and values input from all directions, as long as you’re happy to receive it. Given the company's constant movement and dynamic nature, there’s never a chance for me to get bored here.
I have been with Indeed for over five years, which is quite an achievement for me. As someone with Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD) I tend to get bored quickly, moving from one job to the next. Indeed’s culture and opportunities have kept me engaged and fulfilled.
My role on the Scaled Business Solutions (SBS) Client Optimization Team has two parts. Firstly, I dedicate half my time to ensuring my team can work to the best of their ability by always working alongside them and knowing their current statuses. As a team leader, it's important to have a high level of empathy and understanding. My team's challenges might differ from mine, so active listening and a desire to help are essential parts of my job. Secondly, I am in daily contact with our customers. Our team assists Scaled Businesses in utilizing our platform effectively. We spend a considerable amount of time on the phone explaining how Indeed works. Many small businesses do not have a budget to hire recruiters, so they manage the hiring process themselves. My team of experts guides them on how to do this efficiently.
In addition to my daily role, I am the EMEA Community Engagement Lead for the iPride and Gender Identity Inclusion Business Resource Group (IBRG). In this role, I focus on creating and fostering a safe space for LGBTQIA+ Indeedians and working together as a leadership team to reach our goals. One of our main projects during the year is Pride Month in June, with the Dublin Pride Parade as the icing on the cake.
Throughout my time at Indeed, I’ve been actively involved in several IBRGs, and I find them incredibly rewarding.
Participating in events that truly shape the culture of Indeed has given my life colour in ways I can’t explain.
Plus, IBRGs attract the most loving and caring people I have ever met. They are people who are brave and want to create a better world. They are people who speak up when others can’t or when they aren’t heard. In my personal life, IBRGs have been an educational journey, opening my eyes to my values and discovering more about myself. Equity is one of my highest values in life, encapsulated by my motto: we rise by lifting others. IBRGs consistently embody this motto.
Professionally, the IBRGs have given me the opportunity to work on projects I wouldn’t have been involved in otherwise. I’ve developed skills such as public speaking and project management, which aren't typically part of my day-to-day role but have proven invaluable.
When I started with Indeed, few people were involved in the IBRGs, and while leadership was small, their impact was significant. I've watched these groups grow into professional organizations, meaningfully influencing the business. The fact that we can start a project to assist job seekers in the transgender community, which our CEO, Chris Hyams, shared on his LinkedIn, really is something I wouldn’t have thought possible. The IBRGs bring forward issues that leadership might not have considered and tremendously impact our product and business inclusivity. A more inclusive business and product attract more inclusive talent. It’s a ball rolling that we can’t stop, and I can’t imagine we would want to.
People often ask me why I have stayed with one company for so long. For me, it comes down to my core values: kindness, bravery, and helpfulness. These values are embraced at Indeed, and I can live them out daily in my work. The IBRGs are where I feel most at home. Its principal mission is to create a safe environment, and I love working with iPride because it allows me to contribute. Creating a safe space for the community requires kindness. Helping those who struggle requires helpfulness. Most importantly, standing up as an ally demands bravery.
Additionally, I stay at Indeed for the culture and the satisfaction of helping people—whether it’s my team, our customers, or the LGBTQIA+ community.
Nothing beats the warm and fuzzy feeling of a colleague telling me that my actions made them feel seen, heard, or understood.
With my ADHD, it is hard to feel genuinely seen for who I am. That’s why creating recognition and understanding for everyone around me is essential in my professional and personal life.
