An assistant teacher works in both public and private elementary, middle and high schools. They may also choose to work in community centers, childcare centers, or preschools and religious organizations. An assistant teacher may spend some time outdoors accompanying children getting on and off the bus or during recess periods. Almost half of all assistant teachers work part-time.
