What does a Caregiver do?

A caregiver is a professional who helps an individual with daily living activities. Caregiving normally occurs when someone reaches old age, has a disability or disease or has a mental disorder and might need extra help.

A caregiver traditionally works in a one-on-one environment with a patient or person who needs care. This could be in their home or the home of a relative or a designated place of residence. Additionally, a caregiver or companion may work in a nursing home or health facility.
